Hey I just bought an 01' 3.8 5-speed mustang :nice: I was just wondering what rpms to shift at for best gas mileage; because I calculated my gas mileage and I am getting 15.3 :( mpg and thats half highway!!:scratch: The car has 55k miles and the only mod done so far is a cold air intake. If anyone has any opinions on this and why my gas mileage sucks please share :D

I have a 02 GT with 68k i shift between 2 and 4k rpm depending on the gear, and traffic. I used to get about 150 miles per tank but after using premium and taking it easy i get 150 in less than half a tank. make sure you cold air intake dose not have any leaks. You cars ecu will not let you know unless it cant correct the a/f ratio it self. Therefore it will burn more fuel to compensate for the air.

Oh and what exact rpms do you shift at for what gear, normally? I know you said it varies but like I said i get 100 miles on half a tank but when I calculated my gas mileage I only get 15mpg :(

theses numbers are kinda low for a mustang driver but when your trying to conserve...

1st 24-2500 15mph
2nd 30-3500 20-30mph
3rd 32-3500 30-40mph
4th 35-3800 45-55mph
5th and a cost of around 2100 rpms at 65-75mph
just dont dump the clutch or your car will start jerking and jumping. also i have 3.73 gears it may vary for your stang. it just sucks because you want to and fell like punching it but just take it easy.
