shimming the starter

alright i heard you don't shim Fords its a chevy thing right? well my starters acting up, when i replaced it it had a washer only on bottom bolt. what should there be inbetween starter and bell housing?

Well besides the dust shield for the bellhousing, I don't think there is anything else. Lock washers on the bolts might be a good idea, as that's how they came on mine.

No shim. If you change the starter and it makes noise, it is either a bad starter or bad flywheel.

some of the aftermarket mini starters can require shims. im not sure what you got, so i thought i would toss that out.
