I found out today that Lithium powered flashlights can go boom to day. See Here for pictures of the damage.

FYI it was in the owners pocket when it cooked off!!
    What do you think?

Ive seen something like that in an Insight light going around in e-mails. But the batteries were cheap chinese ones. I wonder what Surefire will do about this?

Yeah, Lipo can be dangerous. Seems I am always reading about someones helicopter or plane (radio controll) catching on fire because the Lipo battery burst into flames. Its a relativly new tech in high output/high storage cells so I kinda figured it would be a couple more years till they became as stable as NiCads or Alkaline.
Sure can get a ton of power from a small package though.

Holy CRAP! High powered dive lights (called canister lights) are starting to use LiPo batteries and there are some issues with them (nothing as bad as this)...I'm certainly glad mine is still NiMH.

I have cheapy chinese RCR123 in my Fenix lights.

I saw that thread a few days ago and I am starting to think that I need to invest in some better quality batteries.

That's like the laptop fire thing. Those batteries can be very dangerous.
