Signs of a bad power streering pump

what are some signs of a bad power steering pump? i tihnk i have the stock one on there, but it whines alot, nad every couple days i have to put power steering fluid in, do u think it's time for a anew power steering pump? how much do they go for? and where is the cheapest i can get one for? thanks
