Size of screw that holds clutch cable cover to transmission?

Does anyone know the size and pitch of the threads, and length, of the screw that holds the clutch cable cover to the transmission? Somehow mine fell out on the road...I'm hoping that it simply wasn't tight enough somehow, and that the hole isn't stripped... But I can't know for sure w/o a replacement screw!

6mm x 1.0 with 8.8 Hex Head (or it's nothing much more than a small course-thread sheet metal screw with an 8mm head).

Do they differ by years? What about if it's a tranny out of a 93 vs an 87? I just tried several 6 x 1.0 screws, and they all just slide right in - the hole in the tranny is too big.
