I get a clunking noise from my rearend when slowly letting the clutch out sometimes. I pulled my diff cover off and found that my Trac Lok unit seems to have quite an amount of play. When you turn a tire in either direction there seems to be play inside whether from the clutches or spider gears. Will rebuilding tre unit tighten it up? I purchased the rebuild kit some time ago but never did it because the car allways spins both tires.

you have gear play somewhere a bad traction lok will not cause play.and what i mean by gear play is worn gears ring gear, drive pinion or differential side or pinion gear(spider gears) or you may have a loose ring gear.it could be a number of things bad bearings or worn shims ect....you need to watch gears while someone else rotates wheel and/or driveshaft and find the gear with the play check how much driveshaft play you have and how far you have to turn driveshaft to engage ring gear i will almost bet thats where your problem is...and repost
