seems like the older I get, the less time there is for anything. I have a feeling that in another 40 years, it'll feel like the movie "The Time Machine" by HG Wells with the scene where the sun comes up and goes down over and over and over.....

I'm not depressed or anything, I just wonder when I'm going to get to work on my Mustang or my Fairlane. I have a new, tentative completion date for the Mustang, Apr. 17, 2014. Actually, I'm hoping to buy a 2015 Mustang V8 (if Ford stays solvent that long  ) so I can have two cars 50 years apart.

That sucks,

I think the last time that i actually had real free time was high school, and from what it sounds like, I don't know that i will have free time for a long long time.

But hey congrats on making it over the hill :nice: My dad just turned 50, he is hoping for some serious free time when he retires in about 10 years. He wants to move near me so we can restore cars like we did while i was still living at home, cept this time it will all be out of his pocket. :p

Thanks Andy, make sure you get a good job so you can retire early!!!

Did get some good news today though, it looks like my wife will get a pretty flexible job. She used to work at Payless Cashways lumberyard in the contracter's office doing accounts receivables. She work at 4 of the 5 stores in the Oklahoma City area, in fact, she worked at 3 stores at the same time, but during different days of the week.

She's getting a job doing book keeping for a couple. He has a home construction company that grossed over a million last year, she is a vet at our horse track, Remington Park, I guess THE vet for the track. They also have a ranch and their personal accounts. It's looking like 30 hours/wk, the ranch is about 8 miles from our house. Once she gets all that in line, the lady wants her to do her coding, which I guess is just like doctor's offices do for people. The lady also told her that she knows of several other vets she could do book keeping and coding for on the side.

So we may have some more money coming in soon. We'll try and get credit cards and vehicles paid off first and my wife wants to add onto the house and maybe build me my shop (SWEET!!! :nice: )

Hell yes to the shop, :nice: I remember when my mom finally said yes to my dad and I building a shop, Those were probably some of the greatest days/months/year of my life, even tho i didn't know it at the time. Learned soooo much from building that shop. We insulated it, put a a/c-heater in it, then we installed a microwave and a refrigerator, then we ran phone and cable to the place, rebuilding that car in that shop sure was comfortable year round. Sounds like your wife is getting the hook up. Should be good.

I can offer only one bit of advice at my ancient 46..

40 is only a number, like 50, 30 72, 156, or 2,569,784. Keep thinking young, if you want something badly enough, you will find a way to do so. I have worked very hard to make time while raising my two kids on my own, to persue my Cobra dream, build the car, and race it. It's not been easy, but the desire is there. That's the key.

BTW Larry,

Your spindle worked great! :nice:

Well Andy, You and Heather will have to come East to do so in about two months. I am currently working on the body, and will mount it within a few weeks. then it will be street legal again!

In the mean time, it's one fast go-kart!

Well, if I ever get up your way, and lose about 75#, I want to drive your car. Not race it, just tool around on the street. I've always wanted one, but tried to sit in a FFR at the Tulsa Shelby Meet and not only was my butt too big, but my feet were as well (they're only 11D's!!!). Granted, it was a competition seat, if it hadn't had the sides, and I took my shoes off, I probably could have driven it, but my knees were against the dash (I'm only 5'11").

By the way 1320, Heather and I are thinking of taking a road trip the weekend of the 17th because we have no school on that Monday, We were thinking about going to Oklahoma City to go to fronter city, but i see that they will not be open, do you know any other neat things to do in that area? Its either Oklahoma City or Kansas City, her best friend goes to KU Med up in KC, so we are kinda torn.

Well I'm clicking 40 this year too in June. I haven't been able to touch my car either, then again I have two boys at home and riding the quads on the weekend is priority with them. Got plenty to do but like it or not, my priorities have changed a bit. Still love the Stang, but it isn't going anywhere if I can help it:)

Turning 40 for me was pretty neat. I originally wanted to buy a Ducati 996 for my 40th b-day, but decided to finally build the Shelby clone I always wanted instead. I also did some other things I wanted to do, like trying to learn to play guitar. It's kinda funny, but I actually got motivated by the big 4-0 to get off my butt and do more with my life. Sounds kind of touchy-feely, but it's true.

Andy, you definately need to go to Pole Position!!!

Something is wrong with their website, all the links aren't working quite right. It's indoor carting with electric carts. I haven't been yet, but I've talked with some friends and they have said it's a blast, but it is sorta pricey.

Too bad the Hornets aren't in town, I have been to one of those games and they are a BLAST!!! The Blazers hockey team is out of town as well, but you've probably been to a Thunder game. The PBR tour championship is that weekend at the Ford Center. Arena2 football doesn't start until March. Riverwind Casino is a big new casino just across the river on the south edge of Norman.

Texas A&M will be at OU on Saturday for a Men's game and Missouri will be at OSU for the men as well that day. Watching a game at OSU is quite the experience as you are on top of the action no matter where you sit. Stillwater is on the way to OKC off I-35 about 30 miles east.

Go downtown to Bricktown. Lots of places to eat and some clubs. The boats may or may not be running on the canal, depending on the weather, but that's kinda romantic. If you're downtown and like Pizza, I suggest Hideaway Pizza, it's AWESOME!! Toby Keith's I love this Bar restaurant is supposed to be pretty good as well. Pro Bass Shops has a store downtown, cool to walk around in.

The Murrah Bombing Memorial is just on the NW side of downtown. Thunder Valley Raceway Park will have test-n-tune on Sunday after 5pm, weather permitting. Thats in Noble about 10 miles south of Norman. The Oklahoma Tackle Show is at the Fairgrounds, big fishing show with boats, RV's and other camping stuff. The Oklahoma History Center over by the state capital is really cool, I worked on both the architectural and the mech/elec systems on that building. The National Cowboy & Western History Museum is on the NE side of town, near the OKC Zoo and Omniplex, which is near Remington Park which is near Frontier City.

I don't do clubs or bars, so I have no idea what is still around. That's about all I can think of right now.

I turned 40 a month and a half ago---and I will tell you it is great. My car insurance went down, the sex is better, no more studying for school, I can get into the bars...err no wait, that all happened when I turned 25. Forty sucks because I'm loosing my mind now.

I do have to agree---priorities change. I still love my cars, but a lot of my time now goes to my sons, my wife, my house, my job, my bills, my---umm, well don't get the wrong idea--life is really good at 40 and I have lots to be thankful for. Except the job maybe...I travel so much with my job it is hard to get garage time in. :D

I remember being 20 years old and working at a job all day, then coming home and throwing some food into my body, followed by going out to the garage until 2am day after day. Working all weekend on the car, getting up on Monday and repeating the cycle. Sure I was tired, but I sure could get a lot done. I also remember not having 2 nickles to rub together and living paycheck to paycheck at 20. Fortunately that is not as much an issue anymore--I have plenty of brand new parts in the garage I don't have time to install! :p

If you get 90 perfectly beautiful days a year and you live to be 75, you have 6,750. You have already wasted 3,000 of them so get off your ass and work on that Mustang!!!!:D I'm 43 and think of depressing things like this to inspire myself.

A local radio station plays comedy clips every morning and I heard one last week that, while hilarious, is very true. The comedian said something along the lines that now he's 40, he knows how ignorant he was when he was 30. The only problem is, that when he was thirty, he thought he had a good grip on things at 30, but realized then that at 20, he was clueless. He said he could see a trend forming, and that someday he would wake up at age 90, and realize what an idiot he really was when he was a younger man of 80 years old. That pretty much sums up my life...

Life get's better with age, I am turning 50 this year and still feel 16 and can do pretty much everything I could when I was younger. Age is a state of mind.
On the downside many of my friend's are dead, dying, or are disabled or have just given up on life. :(

Welcome to the 40s. I turn 45 friday, two of the three kids out of school now, one of them going in the navy, and except for needing to do a few things to the house I've recommitted myself to working on the mustang again. I've been doing much more designing, planning, sourcing parts and materials and getting my ducks in a row through the winter. Time flys

Well, my wife started her job yesterday, a lady came in to have some vet work done, asked the vet who my wife was and she told her she was the new book keeper. The lady travels a lot and is looking for some book keeping to be done. I asked my wife when can I quit work? :D Then I told her we ought to wait until I get my shop built, then I can be Mr. Mom.
