Does anyone else own a Sony DLP tv? I have the SXRD A552000 model from 2006ish.....and from what was billed to be one of the best DLP models at the time, has turned into crap! From all that I've been reading, the optical blocks fail prematurely. They finally offered a recall but replace the part with the same piece that is poorly engineered. Right now on Customer Service....they willing to come out and fix for free, but I'm pushing for a highly discounted replacement with a newer model. BTW....my tv has permanent yellow streaks and blobs on the screen....screws up the picture big time!
I didn't know Sony had DLP. I thought that was a Samsung technology Do you mean Rear Projection? If so, I have one I bought about the same time and it works perfectly with many hours of tv/xbox time on it edit:
I'm not a big fan of DLP tvs. If you are having trouble and can get a new one I would go that route. And about the streaks and blobs... Don't fap so close and you won't have that issue anymore.
DLP's ROCK! Best TV for the money hands down. How else can you get a 56-61" TV for $1000? Sonys tech is a bit different than Samsungs though, so I can only comment on the experience of me and my friends/family that I've talked into buying a Sammy DLP. I've had my 61" since 06, has over 5000 hours on the bulb and still running strong. Check the last part of this thread, people are getting Sony to give them different TV's for an upgrade price. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=701578
Yeah, Sony has DLP......well they did dunno if they still do. Sony's version of the DLP was the LCOS tech....it was a bit different. At the time it was an awesome pic for a DLP. In late 2006 when I bought this I did alot of research, and back when LCD and Plasma were about $1k more, I bought my 55 inch SXRD Sony Wega LCOS model for like 2300 smackers. From my research it was the best TV for the money, and matched the pic of LCD at the time. Apparently though, the engineering in this set put the bulb too close to the optical block and the UV burns it out prematurely. I've been all over the AVS thread, thus where I got the idea of trying to get a new TV. I called and spoke to even supervisors and they were firm about not wanting to offer me anything in terms of a discount. Seems like I might be stuck with letting them fix the problem. If it breaks again before June 2010 when the extended recall expires, I will be on them like a spider monkey and will offer them no other choice! So as of now I'm stuck with a stunning TV that has always offered a superb picture, but since this has happened the colors are all off.....hopefully can get her fixed in the next couple of weeks. Blurays and PS3 are just not the same! What I have, but the 55" version. Sony KDS-60A2000 Projection TV reviews - CNET Reviews
i avoided DLP's at all costs. i can't stand how the screen gets dark when you aren't sitting directly in front of it. both my flat panel LCD's have 176 degree viewing angles.
Mine was actually one of the best for angles. The pic doesn't show the screen very well at all. Of course right now I want to throw it out the window with the optical block issue. Still works, but once you get great, you always know what you're missing.
