I just built a 302 up and i had to get a .50 flexplate for the 302. My problem is that on my 289 the flexplates teeth is 157 and the one for the 302 is the same? why did it work for the 289 and give my 302 problems now. On the first start up.
Not this case here both flexplates are the same teeth count 157 the only difference is the weight on them. What I dont get is why is it grind the teeth are the same count I am thinking of trying a different starter but from what year.
Going from a 28oz weight to a 50oz will NOT make any difference with the starter. I know this because I just replaced mine. And yes they are both 157 teeth. Is this a new flexplate or used. Before I swapped mine from 28oz to 50oz I too had a grinding issue. The solution was a new flexplae because the teeth were warn out.

I got it fixed now thanks for the help. I called summit racing tech line and told them what it was doing. He told me to get a starter from a 68 to 71 stang with a 3 or 4 stick. It works.
