I had my '88 LX 5.0 Mustang dyno tuned this afternoon to get some baseline numbers before I start modding for more HP. Thought some of you might be interested in the results for a near original, low mile car. (The only engine mods so far are BBK cold air intake, shorty unequal length headers and off-road H-pipe and Dynomax cat-back system. Transmission is AOD with a Lentech valve body and TCS 2800 RPM stall speed torque converter.) Peak prior to tuning was 186 HP. After the tune it's 194 HP/241 TQ. Want to get it to 300HP. Think I'll get there with head-cam-intake work?

Absolutely, my friends 94 Cobra on a Crane cam with 1.7s, Holley Systemax II intake and Edelbrock heads 1.94 valves and 1.6 exhaust put down 298 respectively, IIRC.

    What kind of tune?
    Chip or fuel pressure/timing?

Tune was done with a programmable chip. Ultimately replaced the '88 code with one from 1993.

Thanks for the post! My car is almost exact to your "stock" setup.

i have a new 331 custom cam with .555/.570 lift with 224/236 duration respectively, RPM II intake and TFS TW 185cnc heads not to mention full exhaust (bbk headers, O/R h pipe) and lightweight flywheel/drive shaft.

Going to get it dyno tuned and hoping to put down about 320-350 at the rolling things.

Those cam specs are just like the NX274HR cam. Actually, they are the same. I hope you did not pay "custom" price:nono:

My 15000 mile no option notch with a offroad hpipe and flowmaster catback and 355 gears made 241rwhp and 311rwtq. And the motor was all stock right down the the air silencer and the timing was at stock 8 degrees to. I am having it dynoed next saturday because i did h/c/i and i am getting it tuned also. hoping to get a little over 300 to the tire.

To the OP: A couple years ago my 90 ran the same numbers (196 rwhp) with an AOD, AC, ORH, flowmaster 2.25" catback, cobra upper and lower intake, and cold air with 160k on a stock tune.

    208 rwhp @ 4800
    266 rwtq everywhere basically

This was on my 1990 gt that was bone stock except...
    -msd 6
-underdrive pulley on crank and water pump
    -bbk unequal shorties
-no cats and flows all the way out 2.5 inch
    -warm air snorkel
-3.55 out back and a T-5 (id tag ending in 199)

These cars can make some real nice numbers stock. My 5speed '88 vert with minor boltons made 239rwhp/298rwtq a couple years ago.
    I was shocked and happy
