You wouldn't have to pay $26,000 for a 300HP GT if you wait for 1 to 2 years after they go into production. The GT will sell for under $24,000 when the time comes and they are abundant on the dealer lots. There will be huge discounts on them just with the rebates. I would wait if I were you and buy a 2006 or 2007 GT for under $24,000.
I was thinking same thing at first the dealers will sell them at a big markup then after there sitting on the lots for a year they will have incentives. But I wouldnt even pay 24,000 for one. I just have to many mods put into my car right now to pay 24,000 for something slower. But I think the LX would look much much better then the gt and that 20k sticker would just seal the deal I could care less about interior and so on I am more concerned about speed, how it looks and price.

I had a chance to goto the Chicago Auto show and it was stated that the v6 would be under 18k, the GT starts at 26k and the order dates will begin May 17. the heads on the 4.6 are the same ones used in australia on the 5.4 so they are not a new head, just new here.

What type of car in Australia has a 5.4L engine in it? I know that in places like Australia the socialists there don't want to allow many big liter engines into the country. They like to tax the honest citizens who own cars that have large liter engines. The same is true for many European countries. I am curious to find out which vehicles in Australia have these large 5.4 liter engines in them.

There a few of them I found not bad looking either personally. http://www.fpv.com.au/index.asp

I heard the V8 car was going to be cheaper, at a msrp of $13,125. It will have, IRS, supercharger, 12 liter engine, 7 speed manual, 17 inch disk brakes with 12 piston calipers. The body will also be all carbon fiber and the whole weight of the car will be under 2000 lbs.

Crikey you guys speculate so much. Yeah ford will bring out a whole new car on a more refined expensive platform, have a more complicated engine, bigger brakes from the factory, better quality interior materials, larger wheels and tires, and it will be cheaper than the current car. I dont know what crack you guys are smoking but I want some.

I quote from car and driver
"the four-seat coupe and convertible should be close to 2004 pricing, says Ford: about $18,000 for a V-6 coupe to about $28,000 for a V-8 convertible"

From ford website
"The base V-6 model will remain the best performance car for under $20,000, while the Mustang GT will be the most affordable 300-horsepower car made today."

You can dream all you want but there is not going to be a v8 mustang under $20,000.

Why is everyone hung up on the 20k mark? New mustangs right now sticker for about 25k, and I've seen them reduced recently in Houston to below 20k. So if the 05 stickers for 26k, after mass production, they will offer them for low 20's.
As for the just stick a V8 into a V6 body theory, that just does not work. The V8 will have different spring rates, probably different shocks, better cooling capacity, not to mention all of the electronic changes. And generally different rated trannies and rearends. And the cost of the V8 engine itself probably outweighs the V6 enough to push the sticker cost past 20k. Back when the fox body had 4's and 8's in them, the LX was not simply a V8 in a 4 body. It just does not work.

In the past the the v6 and gt had the same trany's.If this car starts at 20 it would then drop even lower with incentives. I could care less what shocks and springs are on there. Handling doesnt really concern me much. If they make this car I dont care how it handles I dont care how it brakes. They can stick v6 brakes on there makes no difference to me they can pull the crapy shocks of the current v6 i wouldnt care about that either.I can fix both those problems myself very easily if I choose too. I dont care about colored gauges seats brakes so on, and I know im not the only person like this. This is the type of person they need to go after with this car.

Ford tried a basic car with the GTS in 1995 and it didn’t work then. It cost ford more than it made up. It didn’t sell well as ford noticed most GT owners opted for most options.

It costs too much to offer different trim levels. Also putting V8 power in a car with smaller brakes and different handling may sound good to a drag racer it doesn’t sound so hot to fords legal department. They need to produce cars that will safely handle the power so Joe moron doesn’t kill himself.

When official pricing is released we will see. Ford would be touting the lower price already had they lowered it. It’s a bunch of speculation from people who wish it to be true. All the wishing in the world will not make it happen though.

Another quote from a different magazine
hot rod
"The Mustang is also about delivering a high level of performance value to the greatest number of customers at an affordable, attainable price, a notion underscored by the fact that '05 Mustang buyers will be able to option the new car from an under-$20,000 base V-6 with sporty looks and sprightly performance up to a near-$30,000 GT "

Mustang Chief Engineer Hau Thai-Tang
"We are keeping the price as close to the current car levels as possible"

So far I’ve posted 4 different articles 2 from ford 2 for independent sources saying that the car will be close to the current pricing. The 6 cyl coming in at under 20,000 and the v8 in the mid 20's.

If you can find articles or sources saying the new Stang will be >20,000 with a v8 please post them. Otherwise they are just rumors. Muscle Mustang Fast Fords, Motor Trend, Car and Driver, Automobile, and fords Chief Engineer all put the V8 pricing close to the current models. That means mid 20’s .

Read again what ford says

“What’s more, all this unrivaled driving excitement will continue to come at an attainable price. The base V-6 model will remain the best performance car for under $20,000, while the Mustang GT will be the most affordable 300-horsepower car made today.

Now if the V6 is the best performance for under $20,000 that means that no V8 car will be under $20,000 right or it would be the best value under $20,000.

The above statement is taken directly from ford web site and can be found here

Crikey you guys speculate so much.

it's kind of hard to call it speculation. when it came STRAIGHT from the mouth of a Ford executive. if it is a mistake that is a HUGE mistake. Yet Ford has said nothing to negate what was said about a 20K V8.

i am not saying it will happen for sure, but it looks pretty likely. i am not getting my hopes up but if it happens that will be what i am buying.
