Alright, my Vortech w/aftercooler should be here this week. I've been tryin to figure out my install options.

    I have 4 choices currently:

    1) Do it myself (actually with help from those more mechanically inclined)

    2) Drive 2 hours to have it done, BUT spend less than half from regular places. Only big issue is driving back without it being tuned??

    3) Have fairly new place install for cheaper than regular rates around here then drive to another location(which isn't far from there) for dyno tune

    4) Take to well known shop for everything but will be without a car for 3 days (doubt I could do this b/c of work?

What would you do in my situation? I'm hoping to have it done within the next 2 weeks!

    thanks

I just did my own Whipple install (with intercooler and dual fuel pumps). It took me between 25 and 30 hours but I wasn't in a hurry. Dyno'd it today and am very happy with the results. If I were you, I would definitely not drive it without at least a "safe" tune file. I wouldn't hesitate to do the install myself and would recommend that to you if you are mechanically inclined at all. You will make sure that everything is done right and double-checked and will also make sure that the wiring and hoses etc are routed the way you want and not just thrown together the easiest (fastest) way possible.

    My recommendations:

    Do it yourself,
    take your time,
    download a "safe" tune,
take it to the best tuner in your area for a custom tune asap.

This will be the cheapest option and will generate the best result. :nice:

Take it to a well known shop. It will save you hassle and headache later. It will get done right the first time.

I say do it yourself. Chargers like vortech as you know just replace and move accessories and you dont have to move actual engine components (like a whipple) ive installed one before and it took me about 3 hours taking my time. It is not hard at all. And as far as driving without a tune, you will be ok. Unless you are running high boost from the get go.

I see cars running around here all the time on a stock tune.
