well swapped out my denscharger for a jlt rai today. thing looks like it belongs there. nice quality and easy install. can here the blower whine a little more. I know that it had to be better than the denscharger for one reason expecially. whoever owned this thing before me looks like they tried to squeez the k&n filter threw the hole in the fender instead of going up from the bottom of the car, and man was it dirty and bent all to hell. cant be good. but anyways good product, instructions were ok, seen better seen worse. overall paid $155.
I was told the Densecharger are crap and hard to tune, will affect a stock car negatively. Did you find that???
I was told the same thing, that is why I switched. glad I did because the person who did the install did a bang up job. glad I didnt try to take the filter out to clean it and find it like that and not have anything to swap it with. as for it affecting it close to stock car didnt feel slow and unfourtunatly I didnt have time to go dyno before the swap to find out. car feels the same but havent really had a chance to get on it.
I too went from the DC to the JLT cai and then to the JLT rai. I had zero problems with my DC since it was a later version with the maf electronics rotated to the 12 o'clock position. Earlier versions had issues with it leaning out the air-fuel quite a bit. I simply changed because I though Jay's (of JLT) stuff looked great. On the dyno, the JLT made +10rwhp/+10rwtq more than the DC throughout the entire rpm range. Unfortunetly, my car was one of the few that didn't like his cai, had stalling issues with it. My 03 Cobra had the stalling issue from the factory and though that was fixed via dyno-tune, the cai didn't work well on my car. The car would only stall when slowing down so I assumed the air would become turblent and the maf would have problems measuring/reading it as it flowed pass the wires. I tried rotating the maf but to no avail. I put on the JLT rai and problem solved. Love the JLT
I had the pleasure of running both the 1st generation DC and the 2nd generation unit. They did cause problems with some 03/04 Cobra's though... There are plenty of people out there still using the Densecharger system though. The problem with the DC for the 03/04 Cobra was determined to be the laminar airflow across the MAF electronics. The DC has a 90 degree bend right in front of the MAF which changes the way the air enters the MAF. This caused a lean condition on many Cobra's and also made it difficult to tune properly. The 2nd generation DC re-clocked the MAF electronics from the 10 O'clock position to the 12 O'clock position. This was an improvement over the 1st gen unit, but did not totally fix the issue. I would like to state that all the other CAI's made by DC for Mustangs other than the 03/04 Cobra specific model work very well and there are thousands of happy customers sporting them today. I eventually replaced my DC with a 1st Gen K&N FIPK not so much because of the tuning issues, but because it was such a PITA to service the filter. I'm going to order just an upper intake tube from JLT in the near future to complement my K&N set up. Then I'll have the best of both worlds! U.M.
Uncle meat, why didnt you just orer a JLT RAI, that is what it sounds like you have now???? Oh and is your filter right now in the engine bay or?
Because JLT didn't even exist when I bought my FIPK! Currently I'm very happy with my FIPK and it's "Magical Velocity Donut". I only want to replace the stock upper intake tube (MAF to TB) for a little better flow. The FIPK is an under hood open element filter surrounded by a heat sheild that mates up with the hood when closed. I take it you were going to tell me the benefits of an "in-fender" system? Save your breath... I've seen the data logs from both in-fender and under hood set ups. Once the car is moving there's less than 2 degrees difference in the IAT 1 & IAT 2 readings! Not worth it for the major PITA an in-fender CAI brings to the table. U.M.
Nope I was not about to tell you the benefits to the in-fender set up lol a matter of fact, Im going to buy a JLT RAI this month and I hope it works out as well as your set up
