Yes, I am desperate. I found this setup while searching on Ebay for an American thunder catback w/ original 40s. What do you guys think? I tried to e-mail the seller and 2 bidders that purchased this setup and go NO response. I really miss the sound of a chambered muffler. Seems like everyone is trying to get away from the drone, and I am trying to get it back!

    You input is greatly appreciated!

Are you interested in that setup because of the price? If you want a chambered catback at a good price, I'd go with MAC. I have a MAC catback and love the sound, its comparable to Flowmaster.

You can get it from Brenspeed for $316 shipped to your door. Id pay the extra $16 over an eBay catback. I ordered my catback from Brenspeed as well as a few other parts and have never had a problem. I'd rather deal with a company such as them rather than an eBay merchant.

    Just another option for you.

Brenspeed was primarily a ebay dealer before they did online sales through their site (and still do alot of ebay stuff!) ;)

Brenspeed is good people though, buy from them if you want that MAC stuff.

I just worry about matching the wrong muffler to the x pipe. I was told that the kooks x pipe was one that sounded good with flows. Im sure the flowpaths would be good as well... I will search for a sound clip.

Price is a factor, I have ZERO money for this but I cant stand the SLP any longer! On the other hand I want to get something I like, I dont want to be doing this again in another couple months..... Other inputs are welcomed.

To be honest any mandrel bent 2.5 pipe is the same as any other. It's got real mufflers, so, why not.

However does it look to anyone else that the tips are actually smaller than 2.5 inches? Or is it just a picture trick. I imagine they just polished a portion of the 2.5 inch pipe for cost, but it actually looks necked down to me for some reason.

    Not to sound repetitive, but:

You are looking for a cheap chambered muffler, go with MAC. It sounds just like a Flowmaster catback with subtle differences. I had a Flowmaster 2 Chamber on my 96' GT and now a MAC catback on my 02' - both sounded very similar.

You are not going to find many other choices for a brand new catback shipped to your door for $316.

I have had about three different catbacks on my car already. I either sell my old ones local to get the cash to buy a new one. Or I buy a new one, then sell my old one on eBay. I use the box from the new catback to ship my old one, saves money for a box that size. Never had a problem doing it this way. If your SLP is in good condition, it should pay for a new Flowmaster or MAC catback in full - as they fetch more money being all stainless. I sold my used stainless Magnaflow catback for $310 and bought the MAC new for $313, so it cost me $3 to switch.

If you want to hear what the MAC Catback sounds like paired with an O/R Prochamber you can take a look at my video, theres a few clips in the beginning of what it sounds like. I have another exhaust setup in there too, towards the end. Just ignore the rest of my weird video, haha. I know you have an O/R X, but this should give you an idea of how comparable it is to Flowmaster - you still hear that gurgly growl while it sails past you:

sounds pretty sick.. some days I wonder if I should just swap out the X pipe for an H pipe... But then again, I dont know if the kooks will hook up with anything else.

Here is my latest discovery. I am thinking about maybe doing something like this and buying the 40's to clamp/weld in.

Of course I would need tips then....

As far as the summit kit, Id stay away, I had a friend that had the kit and it fit like crap, it needed way to much adj. and odds and ends. I can tell you, I have the mac kit with an off road h pipe and get so many comments.....why dont you buy a catback kit such as mac or a flowmaster for say $300-350, then sell your slp for say $200-250 so then you would only have 100-150$ in your exhaust then  Def. dont go cheap on the exhaust, do it right he first time, I mena you got the kooks, finish it right! :nice:

That auction is for a 96-98 Mustang cat-back with 2.5" tips.

If you get a 99-04 American Thunder cat-back, it comes with 3" tips. I know this because it's what I have on my car.

    Lets Recap-

the whole reason I am looking at the summit catback and the ebay catback is because I want the flowmaster original 40's, NOT the super 40's. All american thunder catbacks now ship with the super 40's, thats why I am not interested in the AM catback.

I LOVE the drone- thats why Magnaflow isnt an option.

Mac sounds good, but I have an X pipe- not an H pipe. I have listened to many clips and i like the flows better than the flowpaths with my style X.

If I were to get the summit catback, 40s, SS tips it equals out to be $10 cheaper than the AM thunder catback, with nicer rolled tips. I noticed the hangers are in slightly different places on the summit catback though.. since it doesnt come with tips it has hangers toward the end of the tail pipes.

And why has my post count stayed at 449 for the past 82 posts!
