It could turn out well, or it could be a disaster. I personally have no problem with the gov buying banks. That should make the banks more accountable and subject to greater oversight,
I don't think the gov't should own chit except the basics. To live you need electricity, water, education (yea I know I know), roads, drainage, traffic lights, signs. You can keep your money under a mattress.
This brings up an interesting question. Why does our government have to borrow money at interest. Why can't they just print the stuff at will?
