Why do non mustang civilians think all GT's have a 5.0, I have been asked
countless times if my GT has the "5.0" or "302" I actually have my answer
memorized, but it does no good to try to explain. This guy at work who drives
a Z06 saw that I got rid of my 99 GT and now am driving an 04 ...
Once again he asked , Well does this one have a 302? I say No it has a
4.6. He says is that a V8? I say yeah it sure is. he says What size is that?
I say a 281. He then looks at me like have some kind of disease and walks off. Will the 4.6 ever be reconized as a resprectable engine.....................

well its never gonna be something to make F-bodies wet their pants in stock or mildly modified form, but there are plenty of 4.6's running 8's, 9's and 10s, maybe even better times

As far as respectable, its a very reliable motor, just think about how many police vehicles and taxi cabs use the Crown Vic and get beat to hell.

I still get that every once in a while, usually at a gas station, somebody will ask if it is a 5.0 and when I say no a 4.6, they usually say I shoulda got a 5.0. I'm like nah, 5.0s are slow, I like this one just fine, and when I start it up they give me this like WTF look. :)

    I blame Vanilla Ice... :nonono:

In all fairness though, the 5.0 was the performance Mustang engine for nearly 20 years...

I know, especially modded ones, but when talkin to the general dip**** public they are by todays standards.

BTW, I think it's about time Ford brings some sort of a 5.0 OHC engine into the mix, man that'd be sweet seein the "5.0" on the side again instead of "GT"

I know, some sort of a Boss 302 Spec Ed with a 5.0 cammer, or shoot a GT with just a 5.0 3v. "5.0" was the **** when I was a little kid growing up and first got me eyeing up Mustangs. :nice:

Same here man. Metallic Purple 94 GT was the first Stang I remember seeing at the local dealership when I was 11. Ever since then I read MMFF monthly and knew all the different manifolds, cams and head combos; hell I even had my own 347 stroker built in my head! AFR heads, GT40 manifold, mild cam and Kooks LT's.....

If I had to do it now it would be a 95 Cobra with either said 347 :nice:

With the way things are going with my 2V, I just may do that, I could use lower car payments :(

Yeah the 5.0 became the monniker of the performance mustang and most people still don't know that they don't make 5.0 Mustangs anymore. It's like Chevy and the 350, the general public doesn't think of any other engine in these cars and they also never think that something like a 5.0 could be putting out 400 or 500 horse and take down the Vette's and the Vipers on the street. I think Ford would have been better off from a marketing standpoint to change the displacement slightly on the 4.6 to make it a 5.0 so they would have just had pushrod or OHV 5.0's instead of 5.0's or 4.6's

Don't feel so bad....the F-body guys go throgh the same thing. Even if they only ran them in the '93-'97 models, I'll hear the clueless people at the car shows asking every F-body guy if his car is an "LT1".....doesn't matter what year it is. :rlaugh:

I'm sure they're sick of explaining it just as much as us Mustang guys are.

i still wish they had a LX V8. some of my friends still think back to the days of the foxes when the GT had all the ginger bread. so when i tell them about my new GT they ask why i got the one with the skirts and wing and scoop.

i dont blame them because i didnt get it at first either.

5.0 badges look wonderful. stock and beutiful

You guys are Killing me talking about the 5.0's. I just bought 4.6 my and love it, but I have had my eye on a 5.0 about 15 miles away but I cant make it work because I would have to get rid of my 30mpg dd, aind there is no way I am getting rid of my 96 or using it as a dd.

I have only had my 02GT for 3 weeks and I have been asked 4 or 5 times if it is a 5.0. I also have an 89LX 5.0 and everybody seems to think it has about 450 hp. When I tell them it has 225 hp they can't believe it. They also can't believe the 4.6 has more hp than the 5.0.

I come across this a lot too. When someone asks me how many times I regret not getting a 5.0, or how many times Ive been smoked by one, I just smile :)

*disclaimer: I know there are thousands of balls to the wall 5.0s that would hand most 2V's their ass. Its just when people talk about them as if they were 10 second cars from the factory.
