I have a 91 mustang lx 5.0 and Ive been hearing this slight squealing from the trans when it was in neutral and the clutch not pressed in pretty much upon startup and would kinda go away with when you pressed in the clutch a little. Today it got louder upon start up and then a little later it sounded like full on metal on metal contact no matter if your in gear or not and no matter if clutch is pressed in or not. We swapped from an auto to t5 in december 2015 amd put in the pilot bearing and throw out bearing that came with the spec stage 1 clutch. Also put in a new clutch fork. Not sure what this is and how long till it seriously messes up. The noise is pretty loud.

Take off the dust cover and shine a light up in there, chances are the t/o bearing is shot and so is the bearing retainer.
Exactly. I bet the bearing retainer is pretty wasted causing the new bearing to go bad.

Tell us about the t5. Was it new, rebuilt or just an older one that got swapped in without a rebuild?
