I know that Shelby experimented with an independent rear in a 68 Shelby, known as the Green Hornet. But that was done with a 9 inch. The T-Bird rear is component system, has 4 bolts that hold it in and either uses a 7.5 or 8.8. If you get serious about looking for one, try and find the rear out of a Lincoln MK 8, they had the aluminum pumpkin, saving about 35 pounds, were equiped with the 8.8, and had a 3.31 gear I think. If you did some searches, you can probably find the specs on the old Shelby set up. About 8 / 9 years ago, Shelby was selling a bolt in system for early Stangs....
