Hey guys, my dad and I took my car out tonight and gave it some runs, man this thing is a ton of fun. Our best time of the night was a 13.114 @ 107.20 mph. I KNOW it has more in it, I just can't launch for the life of me, our best 60' is a 2.02 I believe. We wanted to break into the 12s, but not quite yet. I think its time for some bigger rear wheels and then drag radials. I've still got tuning to do, because I know it has more in it, it's still running real rich, and a few runs we could feel it cutting out in the upper rpms.
Have your distributor re-curved. Or at least try an aftermarket unit like MSD or Accel. (if you don't have one already) You'll notice quite a difference. Most people don't realize that the distributor advance curve's importance to engine performance. It's curved for the factory spec and you start throwing speed parts at it meanwhile the curve hasn't changed. In the traction factor, try maybe a drag radial or go with a tire manufacturer that has stickier compound. Usually the lower the treadwear rating the stickier the tire. (wears out faster though) Firestone, BFG's, and some Goodyears, may be others aswell. A stall converter will definately lower your 60' times launching you higher in your engine's powerband. There should be a shop in or near your town that can modify your MII converter to raise the stall. I had mine raised to 2200 and it's still not quite enough. The think the MII converther can go as high as 3500 because of it's small size.
Listen to dano he knows his stuff. My fathers car (64 plymouth valiant 440) responds good to only 420 hp and 5.13 rear gears.
He's running a T5. Be careful running sticky tires behind a Windsor stroker. You should have plenty left in her. Now hurry up with the video! I want to hear that sucker scream!
yup, 107 is good for about a 12.6 or so with traction, you'll need a 60ft of about 1.7 or so. I took my Pinto down last night and ran a 12.303 @112 and my 60foot was a nasty 1.808. With some tuning and some better traction i should see some 11's
Videos are here! http://starshadow.com/~gael/sir-6-25-04/ Ignore the black smoke. I also need a carb tune.
As for the distributor thing, I'm running a full MSD ignition system. MSD billet distributor, MSD 6-AL box, MSD Blaster 2 coil.
WOOOHOO your doing us proud bro! You caught that vette after he got a major holeshot on ya, then you spanked the Viper!! and yep your are runnin rich! Maybe consider dropping a jet size or even a step in CFM. On my last motor I dropped from a 750 to a 650 CFM and picked up a 10th in the 1/4, plus it didnt stink raw fuel so bad lol.
Well first off, like the others are saying, you're spraying bugs bro-tha'. Which is causing you to loos some precious ET. I dunno what size of carb your're running or the stats on your engine but from the looks of it you must not have enough cam/heads to eat up what your feeding it. I's drop the secondaries 2 sizes and probably the front 1 size and see what it does. You'll have to re-time it when you do that. If you're running a T-5 try to launch it a little taller in the RPM band and yeah you'll definately need at least drag radials or an equivelient sticky tire. The only think I'd be worried about is one you have 'er hooking up is fraggin' the T-5 on your launches or murdering the weak-link second gear. Also be sure to have the advance curve checked out aswell- making sure you initial timing is set where it works the best (don't just use factory spec)and that you're gettin the proper total timing under WOT. You do have a sweet Ign. system, so that definately not a problem! Otherwise, you've got a real solid runner! Was very impressed to see the runs agains the Vette. NICE. And I bet you show the 'Announcer' what the little IIs can do. Anyone else catch his comments?? Nice work Be sure to keep us posted!
Damn, nice times! I got a lesson in drag racing when I went to the track for my first time last night.
