TRANSMISSION HELP!!

FINALLY AFTER 2 MONTHS OF NOT WORKING ON MY CAR,I ADJUSTED THE SHIFTER AND BLED THE BRAKES ON MY STANG. JUST WHEN I WAS ABOUT TO MAKE A TRIP TO THE MUFFLER SHOP I REMEMBERED THE CONVERTER IS A 11" 2500 STALL. I HAVE A 302 WITH AN AUTOMATIC C4 WITH A SHIFT KIT.I ALSO HAVE A B&M ALUMINUM DEEP PAN.

NOW IM REVING 2GRAND BEFORE I START INCHING AWAY.. I STILL HAVE A STOCK CONVERTER FROM MY OLD C4. I CHOSE THE STALL BECAUSE IT WAS RECOMMENDED BY A FRIEND WITH THE SAME APPLICATIONS. HE WAS RUNNING A 91 5.0 302, C4 AUTO TRANS AND SAME CONVERTER AND IT RAN FINE.

NOW SHOULD I BUMP UP THE TIMING A BIT MORE OR SWITCH OUT THE CONVERTER? ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD HELP! :( :nonono:

To be helpful...

A 2500 stall won't engage at exactly 2500 rpm for all engines. Its dependent on the torque your motor makes at that rpm. Engaging somewhere in the low 2000s sounds right for a 2500 stall, so I'm not exactly sure what the problem is.

What were your goals with the car? A C4 with a 2500 stall is going to be a tame enough to be daily-driverable, but it isnt going to be as nice as a stock converter. On the same token, you'll certainly be able to launch harder at the track.

If this car is meant for occasional track duty, I think your current setup is fine. If its meant strictly as a daily driver/cruiser, you may want to return the stall to stock.

(After re-reading your post it sounds like the converter/C4 is working fine, in which case there's no need to read the following... but in the event its not...)

First... dumb question but is the fluid level topped off? My old C4 would occasinoally take its time un-stalling and getting into gear if it got low on fluid (and since it always leaked, it was always low).

Second, could be worth getting your vacuum modulator and linkage tuned at a trans shop. Usually its pretty cheap and if its not set right it could lead to issues like that.

Yea at first thats what i thought. I made sure the fluid was topped off and let it run a few minutes before Irechecked again. I took about 10 bottles filled it. I used KENDALL trans oil.
Its gonna be my street/strip car. Mainly weekend a cruiser and occasional Irwindale strip runs untill I get my roller motor complete.

That was my next option to load her up on my trailer and to to the trans shop. The only thing that Im stuck on is that its a freshly rebulit tranny and converter. I got it from A1 transmission in tha valley 2/16/08 and there shouldnt be a problem

Converter

Thanks for all the help and info....

I wanted to find out if anyone knew how many quarts it should take to fill the tranny? The converter is a 11 inch 2200 -2800 stall, the C4 has an aluminum oil pan with an additional 2 quart capacity. I also have an oil cooler.

You've got a big bell C-4,(11" converter?) those held 10-1/4 quarts in stock form. add 2 more for the deep tranpan. My small bell C-4 holds 10 with the deep B&M pan. Should be filled to the same level on the dipstick as before, so fill it till it is. Needs to be worked thru the gears to get the trans filled to that level
