Well i started sandblasting the front end and some of the frame...but my little compressor is just too small (35 gallon) and its taking forever so im going to build a rotissserie (now that i have a welder) and i found a guy whos going to blast my shell for a 100 bucks :D And its right down the street from my shop so i can tote it back right away and primer it up...

here it is :( Any comments/suggestions on the cancer areas are welcomed, i got my floowpans in the mail yesterday too i cant wait :nice:

My advice to your would be to ( don't take offense ) tack up your rack and let somebody weld it up for you if you don't have alot of welding experience. That is something you don't want to find out your welds are weak on.
Ask the guy to take it easy, and maybe not to even blast areas that area weak. LIke the roof, or the middle of the quarter panels. That blasting can warp big pieces of metal.
Ahhh rust.

For the most part yes.

I have alot of memories with this car, it was my first car, it was a graduation present from my dad ( i got it when i was 15 and was able to drive it but dad didnt sign the title over until i got my HS diploma......

Not to mention i lost my virginity in the back seat :flag:

PLUS i KNOW i can bring him back to life :SNSign:

my advice is to get some metal working tools and maybe a couple of Ron Covell videos and go to town. BTW, you should come over to the 69stang.com site and check out what some of the other guys are doing when it comes to rust repair, there are quite a few of them that have done or are doing a lot of what you need to do on yours.

If you got some spare cash and a little free time, look into your local community college(s) Find one with a good welding program. I've been doing it for just a few months and already make tons of junk for my Stang

Im gonna disagree with the people about the welding here... I say go for it BUT...big BUT...you need to practice and practice on scrap before you go off welding on the car. What you should do is practice on sheet metal and post pics of your welds and let people critique them, then practice more with the new tips... from what Im seeing above, you need more heat or less wire....or just move faster. The welds look a little like someone slapping some bubblegum on top. Use the welders recommendations.

If you are not using gas and just welding flux core...scrap that idea. Spend the money and get the gas.

The floors look fine... Id cut and patch the areas that are really bad. For pin holes, after its blasted, just tack over them. START WITH THE FLOORS. This is a great place people wont see to practice.

Blast the hell out of the cowl vent and the firewall...they are shaped and the flat surfaces are small, so they shouldnt warp easily. The roof and quarter panels need to be blasted very carefully or they will warp...and thats the last thing you want. Id personally sand those areas with a pneumatic sander and some 40 grit to strip it down. Dont just focus on one area, move around and dont let to much heat build up. The nasty rusty part under the 1/4 window and places like that will probably be best sand blasted...but just the small areas.

To patch those, just shape a small strip the best you can to the shape and weld it in...you are better to be lower or sunken in than have the metal raised above the body shape. you can add filler to those areas to get the shape needed.

Do some reading on body welding...lots of tacks spread out...not to much heat in one area.

Hope that helps...I will try and give you as much advice as possible.

Thanks alot man!! I was using flux core in the above pics, i need to get into a tank exchange program pronto thats for sure :D

Im definitly not having someone weld for me i can do it i just need the practice, i ran out of wire but plan on getting another spool tomorrow and practicing some more.

The above welds in those pictures were my FIRST time ever welding. I have a new found respect for welders for sure. I think ill take your advice and sand the roof and other thin metals down....

New shell????? Wow... I did all my own panels, patches, repair work, scrubbing, sanding, welding, knuckle busting, bleeding, caught on fire once (stupid is, is stupid does), learned a ton about welding, and then tearing things out and welding again.

Just a few tips from a very novice welder: patch panels and little pieces to fix areas that should be just cut out and completely redone, is a quick way to increase time and money. Do it right the first time. If doing floors, buy the whole pan - front and back and cut out what you need (always cut back to full thickness metal). Anyone can do it! Good luck.

I wouldnt be replacing the whole pans for small patches..I was sorta confused on what you said but if that is what you were implying..

Doing whole floors takes a LOT of work and if it comes out the way the floors did the first time I did them, its not a good idea. The floors in the car dont look bat at all...couple small patches and its done.
