In valve board I mean cardboard or wood panel to keep the valves in order when disassembling the cylinder head. My question is the purpose of keeping track of which pocket the valves came out of. I have heard it two ways.

1) To make sure the valves go back into the same pocked from which they came from.

2) To make sure the valves go back into a different pocket from which they came from.

Which is true and why?

If you threw them in a bag, you may not know which position they came from, therefor not be sure it got changed.

Keep in mind, I'm talking about a situation where you were doing a valve job.

If they are going to the machine shop why not just let them do the work? They will also check seat pressure on them.

There is a few things i believe letting the seasoned professionals take care of, a valve job is one of them.

I have a complete new TFS spring kit that includes shims. I'll be assembling the new springs to specified height. Therefore, I'm not concerned about seat pressure.
