i have a slightly noisy valve-train, so im going to adjust the preload for peace of mind. ive never done it before, i just made sure they were on straight, and torqued them down to 20 pounds basically.

just so im clear, i loosen the bolt. tighten it down until it is snug on the valve stem and pushrod, then i should only be able to turn it 1/4-1 turn before i reach the torque setting? if it turns more, i need to shim it? is that correct? with the valves closed on each cylinder.

this is for pedestal mount rockers. i can just hear the rockers and exhaust noise in my car because its so damn quiet at a certain rpm. so i figure ill check them reguardless.

also for the shim kits, where is the easiest place to get one? i called a few local parts places and they have no idea

thanks for the input, i read the crane cams article on adjusting them. wanted to make sure i got it correctly though.
