It's been my understanding in the past, that the production numbers are not broken down to indicate speciffic models, ie; GT/V6 etc.

    Dave,

Maybe it has something to do with the cars from the earlier production runs, since yours and mine were among the first. How about those of you whose VINs calculate correctly? Is there a pattern here?

I used the PDF file on the link woode gave us to pull a breakdown... Here is mine and if you have a GT I denoted what your VIN code should reference under the table... It's kind of small sorry....

    Here is the PDF
    https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenance/vin_tools/pdfs/VIN2005.pdf

I sure hope that our insurance companies are not using a decoder like that to determine rates, especially those of us with a V-6 that keeps coming up V-8...

Dave, you're right - it does show the V6, but above that it correctly identifies yours as a GT. Hmmm.

2005MustangGT, check again. i think Dave's got you beat by 1500 or so

mine comes up correctly, including the 'H' for engine type. but, mine is a T85 (vert) instead of T82 (coupe). i wonder if it has problems with the coupes?

They nailed my VIN on the head. Vert, Active, GT, HP, and all. last 6 digets are 229216, so I guess it's the 129,215 Mustang to roll out of Flat Rock, MI.

    Just remember

    They are not sequenced numbers....

Number 10 and 11 may not be built right after each other....

Infact 11 may be produced way before 10.

It's my understanding that the sequence numbers are assigned when the unit is serialized. They are not necessarily sent down the line in the same order.
