I am looking at buying a 98 Cobra. The car is exceptionally clean and is great shape. Mods are catback exhaust with no mufflers and 3.73 gears. Am getting tranny cheacked cuz 2nd seems hard to get into on a fast shift ( though I might just not be used to the clutch yet.) Price is at $13k. Am I getting ripped? Cobras are not exactly all over here in Denver, I called all Ford dealerships and looked in papers and there are a total of 3 Cobras in the 96-98 year range. Thanks.

    Miles? Vert/coupe?

How does it have a catback exhaust with no mufflers? Catback's are from the cat (catalytic convertors), back to the tailpipes. The grind on a high-rpm 1-2 shift indicates something is probably going to give on the trans on a good powershift. I'd have the trans looked at.

The grind is common and it will only get worse. Your synchronizers are wearing out, its a very common problem with 96-98 Cobras. My 1-2 synchros were bad, my 5th gear slider was bad, my 1-2 slider was bad, etc. on my '97 Cobra when I bought it with 46k miles. Besides that and a bad rear end (bearing packs) the car is good. Engine seems to be running strong.

It is a coupe, yellow exterior with black interior. It has 41k miles on it. I actually solved the issue (mostly) today. The guy I am buying it from is a service foreman for a local Ford dealer and he is warranting the labor on any trans/clutch issues for 20k more miles. So now I own a Cobra. Yay me
