Looking for preferences on sub amps, mono or 2 channel. Right now I've got my gain and bass knob of my MTX amp turned up all the way powering my 12" Kicker Solo Baric.

    I was either thinking

    1. Rockford 401s 2 channel amp (because I want to have a remote bass knob)
    2. Soundstream

Any experience with these or other recommendations?

have you checked out JBL mono sub amps (e.g., BP 150.1). got a brand new one off ebay for $30 to power my 10" sub.

max is the max your sub can handle for a moment. RMS is continuous power. you cna probobly find an amp on crutchfield that'll work well. either a 2 channel and bridge it (if the sub is 4 ohms) or a mono amp.

My sub is 2 ohm. http://www.audiooutfitter.com/store/items_html/S12D-2.html

If my sub is 2 ohm and the amplifier specifies different amounts of power throw 4 and 2 ohm.. for example 300 rms 2 ohm.. 150 rms @ 4 ohm.. my sub would take the 300 right.. i'm just a little confused with the bridging part.. My 2 channel now is bridged so i'm assuming its running 2 ohm
Is there any advantage in just getting a mono amp?

Listen you have a lower end sub but it's a high quality one so that is a good thing. Any pioneer, Jbl, Rockford, alpine with a rating of 150 watts or more into one channel witll be more then enough because these brands have clean power (there power ratings arn't inflated to help them sell) or if you want an inexpsensive amp you could look at a sony, jensen, crest or blaupunkt amp if you go with one of these brands you would need at lest 250 watts all the ratings i gave you are rms never buy anything because of it's MAX out put rating

I sell pioneer so if you want drop me a line I can get you a good deal on one of them if you wold like

the problem with that is, the amp is runnign at a 2 ohm load. most 2 channel amps are only designed to run a 4 ohm bridged load. yorus may be different, however.
