If anything? I put 95 cobra rear discs on my 90. Now the backs are bigger than the fronts. If i use 94+ spindles and rotors i can never use my 1990 saleen 5 spokes again. And i'll have issues with my 18 inch wheels also.
If you go to the newer spindles for the front, the spokes on my older rims are pressed up against the calipers. Spacers can be added to the front, but you need 3/8's and that doesn't leave many threads for the lug nuts to go on. Foxes use discs with studs in them already, sn95's use discs that slide over the hub with studs in it just like on the rear end. I also believe that the offset on the 94+ is wider, and the way i have my 18's is the only way they can be. I think baer may make a brake setup that retains the fox style brakes up front, i'll call them tommorrow.
OK here is what I know, as for the SN95, if you stay with 94-95 spindles the offset stays the same, anything newer and the wheels will be set out further. Baer makes a 12" kit for the fox spindles. If you go with the sn95 spindles, use the 99+ calipers, you have to clearance them slightly on the spindle for them to fit, they are dual piston PBR's on 11" rotors. If you go 13" rotors you will need 17" or larger wheels. Go to discbrakesrus.com and you can read all this information. Foxbody Saleens upgrade was merely the 73MM MK VII caliper and 5 lug rotor nothing more.
Unless you count the '93 SCs and SA-10s which had 13" rotors and 4-pot calipers (similar to the Alcon set up on later years). But those cars were produced in such low numbers that I'm not sure if you want to count those.
What caliper did they use for the SA10 and 93 SC cars? I wasn't aware of that setup. I wasn't aware there was a 13" rotor made for the foxbody Spindles, only 12" rotors made by Baer. Anyone have anymore information on them or some pictures?
I think the SA-10 brakes and optional SC brakes were the same as what Saleen used on all the 94-98 cars with the optional 13in Alcons....
I think the 13" brakes did have 4 piston calipers. The 14" setup on the newer cars might be six, but its 4 on mine.
Does anyone know what 4 piston caliper for sure was used? I'd love to go to 4 piston calipers if I could with my STERNS, presently I have the dual Piston PBR 13" kit. and being that there was no 94/95 Spindles to use in 93, I'm guessing a 13" kit on the original Foxbody spindles? That seems strange to me considering if there was a 13" kit for the 93 then why has it never been available since???
George, Call BAER and ask them about their "6S Calipers" Contact the Baer Performance Team at (602) 233-1411. Bring extra money clips
Baer only sells a dual Piston caliper for 12" rotors on stock foxbody spindles. So the 6S which is a six piston will only work on an 18" rim with SN95 spindles, I have the SN95 Spindles but only 17" rims. I'm curious what the 4 piston calipers were that were used on the SA-10 and 93 SC. I'll call Baer but I don't think they made the 4 piston caliper for the foxbody Saleen or they would still offer it.
Are the rotors and calipers readily available? 12 inch brakes are good enough for me. Any part numbers or price?
The 12" kit can be purchased from BAER or any supplier of BAER brakes. It bolts directly to the Foxbody Spindles with only everything supplied, rotor and caliper and mounting bracket.
Saleen used the Alcon calipers on the SA10 cars. At least I know SA-10 #93-001 was so equipped. I have the old review from Super Ford Magazine posted on my wall. The stock Fox-body spindles were not used. '94 spindles were used, even though the '94 Mustang had yet to debut. The parts were already available. Remember, Ford was equipping the '93 Cobra-R with SN-95 brakes and wheels.
OK thanks, so these were a 4 piston Alcon caliper? Do you still have the article and can you make a copy of it? I just found a site that has information on the Alcon calipers, and if these are the same ones, Man what a price. How about $2334.00 EACH side!!!!! Here is the site I was looking at. Do these look the same??? ...... http://www.hrpworld.com/index.cfm?form_prod_id=593,592,588,587_1013&action=product
I guess I'll stick with my 13" brake kit I have now. Unless I find some 4 or 6 piston calipers for dirt cheap that fit 17" rims I'm not upgrading again. LOL
