I just replaced my fuel pump and well since i was under the car i inspected my u joints and such and looked at my pumpkin cover. It had a tag on one of the bolts and am wondering what the numbers mean.

The tag reads: 217A
L08 88 9G24

There should be a 3 before the L. It should be 3L08 whick means you have 3.08 gears with a Locking differential. I don't know what the others mean. It is probably a date code or assembly plant code.

Hmm. will i notice the difference when i get 4.10s? or should i do 3.73s? and is rebuilding the locker hard? I do one wheel burnouts on the drivers side so i am sure the clutches are worn out. Any tech write ups on this? If not i can try to do one. Diff rebuild write up

I would go 3.73 with a manual and 4.10 with an auto, but thats just me. Rebuilding the locker is pretty simple. The spring is a PITA. I bought my kit at the dealer, but there should be aftermarket sources.

You're missing three characters.

S217A
3L08 88 9G24

S217A = axle model plant code, S = Sterling axle plant
3L08 = 3.08:1 w/ Traction-Lok
88 = 8.8" ring gear
9G24 = July 24, 1989 build date
