I installed the JLT w/93 octane tune on my '06 GT two weeks ago. The difference in power and sound is definitely noticeable. You can feel it in the seat of your pants! I have and will continue to recommend this combo to anyone who asks. Simple installation, attractive under the hood, and responsive customer service. And you found it for $100 less than I paid!
Does it seal good against the hood? It appears that it may draw in a lot of warm air as compared to others. However, all of them, as the factory, pull from under the hood. Unless they get cool air from forward motion.
I LOVE my JLT II CAI & SCT X-II. I got mine straight from JLT themselves for $600 shipped with the optional paint match. Man I can't BELIEVE the difference it's made, and there are at least a dozen other testimonials on here that preach the same thing. Definite bang for the buck, it looks good, and it WORKS. The heat shield doesn't LOOK like it seals against the hood, but it does a very effective job of keeping engine heat away from the intake. This intake/tuner combo works PERIOD, not just on a dyno either... in the real world.
Don't want to hi-jack this thread, but are these easy things to install? I am more concerned about the intake than the CAI. Thanks!
How much et did you pic up. Butt meters have never been very good. Sometimes the new sound makes people think they are accelerating faster.
They're a piece of cake. I did my CAI & tune in about 35 minutes total. The factory intake box only has one bolt holding it to the sheetmetal; and you loosen the clamp that holds it to the throttle body. Use a star head to remove the MAF sensor, and then just remove the whole intake tube/airbox as one assembly. You can remove it in the time I took me to type it One bolt holds the heat shield to the sheetmetal, transfer the MAF sensor to the JLT with the 2 star screws, then put the JLT intake together with 3 hose clamps. DONE.
Is this the brand which used to fall apart? Do a thorough search to check on this. If it is, I believe JLT worked very quickly to resolve the issue, but you never know which version you're buying from Ebay (if it's a private seller). If you're looking to buy this unit, I'd check with JLT to be sure you got their good stuff. There was a guy on TMS who slammed the unit, because it kept falling apart, then turned around a while later and tried selling it (under the cover of a "need the money for other things" story) on the TMS Parts For Sale forum. Maybe JLT'll price match for you...
Have not had it on a dyno yet... I've only had the car 2 months, and the CAI for 2 weeks LOL My old H/C/I Fox 5.0 outran my buddy's STi by a car length in the 1/4 at the late night races, and this 06 GT w/ only the JLT & SCT outran him 3 times by the same distance Saturday night (not to turn this into a street racing thread). I know this 06 wouldn't have done that w/o the CAI & tune. I know the butt meters can trick ya, but I've always been pretty good at guesstimating my cars after I've tried them out a few times for the 10 years I've been modding them. My H/C/I 5.0 was a 292/318 car at the wheels, and this 06 now runs pretty much identically against the very same cars I raced with the 5.0. Our track opens March 18, so I'll have exact times then.
the original JLT's had problems with the air filter coming off, but have COMPLETELY resolved the issue. The quick way to tell the difference is to look for an aluminum/cnc MAF housing on the pipe like mine. This is the JLT II version.
Yup, and as I recall, they were very sharp in dealing with people who had the faulty units, too. You just need to be sure some punk isn't trying to pass on his duff unit, like the guy did in TMS.
