Say we wanted to make everyone happy and we split into two separate countries, one that had everyone that voted for McCain (conservatives) and one with everyone that voted for Osama (liberals) with their respective leaders to run both. What do you think would happen? I am sure you would end up with one side with a very strong military and very financially successful. The other side would have enormous crime rates, high poverty and a tiny weak military. One would become a super power and the other would want to merge and then slowly turn it back into what it has become today.

I would think it would turn out like that.. Comparing the republican run civil war era north to todays liberal blue states is laughable. the political climate has changed so much since then.. todays most conservative republicans would be considered radical liberals or socialist by the republicans of the 1860's and laughed out of politics.. Todays liberals would be unthinkable in those times. Neither the dems or repubs of today would elect a single member to congress or senate let alone the presidency in those days. there is no way you can compare any of the political parties of the mid 19th century to anything in politics today. It's like comparing apples to aircraft carriers

we've gone over the fact already that bush screwed McCains chances (hence the reds to blue) but the point was that given any year, any situation, any set of economic issues....there's always states that are bound to change......a few states changing is 4 years is HUGE! plus......the popular vote was 52% to 47% rather small isn't it?? that proves how much emphasis is put on a select few sates..... looks a bit like this:
Many of those high production states used to be red states not even 30-40 years ago. The shift to liberalism has already driven a lot of companies and high paying jobs out of my former red now very blue state (Massachusetts) In these Blue states a lot of the votes that make them blue come from the less productive inner cites with high population.. Just because a person was born, grew up in, and lives today in a blue or red state that does not mean they agree with the way that state leans politically. even in my state about 40 percent of the people voted for McCain.. Among that 40 percent is quite a few of the highly productive upper middle class voters. Even in Extremely liberal massachusetts in my middle to upper middle class town obama only got about 53 percent of the vote.. and where I used to live in a few months ago (dracut,ma) McCain won by a small margin BUT if you look at inner city boston, worcester inner city like brockton and lowell Obama won by a landslide. These are not the highly educated Massachusetts voters. BUT another thing that makes my state very liberal is the inner ring of very liberal wealthy suburbs of brookline, newton, weston, wellesley these areas are filled with extreme liberals, these towns are mostly jewish ( nothing against jewish people but they tend to be liberal even when rich) Plus we have a LARGE population of college students and that group is very liberal. Now about your former confederate states.. Up until the late 1960's these southern states were democrat states, it was president johnson's great society legislation and his war on poverty that turned the inner cities of the north into democrat strongholds and turned the south toward the republican party. Supposedly Johnson said some disturbing and pretty disgusting comments about how black people will vote democrat forever because of him. Before that southern states ALWAYS went democrat.

Like I stated earlier, most of the military would be on the conservative side along with nearly all the gun owners. Besides, most on your side, sir, abhorr firearms, so where would that leave you? We were simply pointing out that your facts were severly slanted to support the point you were trying to make. After all, Wyoming has a higher per capita gross state product than both states you put on a pedistal.
You can take all those figures and throw them out the window. I didn't say the states the voted Osama and McCain, I said the people. Which would leave McCain with hard working productive members, and lots of MONEY. Osama's side would be largely inner city populations. Crime would be high, and you couldn't fund anything because a majority of the money would be gone. Conservatives would thrive on our own. Liberals wouldn't make it.
