I ask because I just broke a ModMax valve spring in my Turbocharged GT. The ModMax valve springs are starting to show up with breakage problems - according to Ron Robart (owner and engine builder and Foxlake Racing). He switched from ModMax to Comp Cams valve springs at the beginning of this year. But when I called Comp Cams, the tech rep tells me that the modular springs (part# 26113-16) have been recalled due to a "design flaw." Who else makes modular valve springs? What valve springs are in your car? How much power does your make? And how long (miles) have you had the springs in there? Thanks. Ryan D.
First off, thanks for answering. I was wondering if anyone was going to. How long have you been driving with this setup? Are you not worried that Comp Cams just recalled all their modular valve springs? It looks like I'll be going with the Crower Springs with the Titanium retainers.
Really when did comp recall all there modular springs? I have run comp springs for over a year with no issues and many many trips to over 7K.. I heard they had A bad batch not all of them.. if you need a contact at comp let me know.I have a very good rep with them.COnsidering i had the FIRST set of their billet cams available to the public..
I called the Comp Cams 'Cam Help Line' and talked to a tech named Dennis. He confirmed what Ron from Fox-Lake Racing told me - The Comp valve springs (part#26113) had all been recalled. You may want to call the Comp 'Cam Help Line' and see what they say.
Well i have higher ups numbers..I dont waste time with the "help"line..Because some times they really have no clue..Ill find out today ..But i have over 13k miles on my springs with no issues..SO i dont see a problem..
ok got the OFFICIAL word on the springs today. QUote from comp: we are recalling springs with the batch number #26181 on the box. The reason is, when the wire was cut, it left a burr that should have been removed during the manufacturing process. This created a pinch point and causes the springs to break just under the burr. The burr is so small that you can't see it by the naked eye, so no one can tell just by looking at them. The springs that are a problem have failed within the first 400 miles. Anything after that, shouldn't be a problem even within the same batch. If the batch number is different, they don't have to worry about anything.We are calling the accounts that they have been sold to, and getting them to call they're customers.
