"fair" is a phony concept in car buying

the dealer is trying to move his product at the highest price the market will bear in his neighborhood.

getting the best deal requires hours of research and negotiation on your part

and never forget that THEY do it everyday for a living,,,, so you're instantly at a disadvantage

so all you can do is try and figure out (as best you can) what the lowest that they'll sell it for ... not an easy thing to do - especially if you're negotiating with a low volume dealership

my advice is to just low ball them and dont worry if they reject your offer / there's always another day in the car biz

MSRP is a "fair" price. I'm in the business, and like most '05/'06 owners, I paid sticker. There's not much markup in this car, so if you get any discount, be happy. Don't be like these guys that want to make a career out of trying to weasel every last dollar out of a dealer. Life's too short to act that way.
Good luck. You'll wonder why you waited to own this car!

26k for a base gt with cloth interior is not a fair deal to me. i bought both my previous gts below invoice brand new and intend to buy at invoice or below if i get another. im looking at the car this way, its a base model, 07 production starts in less than a week, so its already a year old, plus its been on the lot at least 2 months, if they cant cut a deal they can keep it. btw i sell houses

Most dealers will pass on that deal. This car is worth MSRP. The SN95 wasn't.

MSRP for an '06 Mustang GT deluxe? That's WAY too much!
Invoice price is fair. Less than invoice is a good deal.

Shouldn't be hard to get that either. That car will actually be hard for the dealership to move.
    1. It's a deluxe and, unlike me, most people want leather.
    2. No Shaker 500 & it's 6 disc changer.
    3. '07 models are right around the corner. Once they come out, that car becomes 1 year old.

    I paid $23,693 for my '05 with IUP, Anti-Theft, & Shaker 500. That was in March '05.

I finalized the deal on my Stang yesterday. I managed to get around $500 off, that was it. I had a fully loaded GT though, everything but remote car starter.

A little different environment around here though. We're an oil rich province and city and loaded Mustangs aren't sitting around. My dealer was actually spending the last few months accumulating cars from other dealers, they've already sold 20+ Stangs this month so they figure they'll be mostly out of their inventory by end of July. Not a lot of GT's to be had and even less GT Auto's.

My Vista Blue GT Auto Premium loaded to the nuts (I actually didn't take the Shaker1000) was the last one left around so I couldn't be overly picky if I wanted one for the summer.

You always want to get a great deal on a car, but if they are moving and you want a very particular one you're screwed. If you're wiling to bend on a few options (I wasn't) or the dealer is in an area where they just aren't moving many cars you're probably going to get a better deal.

Of the 5 or 6 dealerships in town that got the new Ford GT, all of them sold their cars without breaking a sweat. My dealership actually went and bought one from another dealership up north where the likelyhood of someone buying that car was unlikely. It's the only unsold GT left in town.

Yeah. I got lucky on that one. The dealer actually contacted ME instead of the other way around. And this was in November of '04 when the cars were REALLY hard to get. (took 4 months for it to come in)
Without using any plans at all it was $200 under invoice plus I used the AQHA discount so that took another $500 off.

I just paid 24,500 for my black GT that I picked up on friday. As quick as they were to go down to that from the 26k plus that they were asking, lets me know I could have gone a ways farther.
That and the fact that some of you guys got yours for 23k. I still think 24 and a half is a fair price, and I love the car.

I was looking online the other day and actually saw a couple of 05's still on a lot somewhere. Some dealers are hard nosed and won't bugde off that sticker. :)
