I was thinking about this this morning. We all see loads of stupidity on the 'net, but what's the most ridiculous automotive advice or story you've ever read?

For me, it was a thread from a Cobalt forum that was linked to SVTPerformance a few years back. A kid had just installed a supercharger on his Cobalt [IMG] and stated "I think I can almost pull the front wheels off the ground now!"

It was on this forum actually. Several years back we had a guy completely cover the bottom of his car in grease in the name of 'winter weather protection'

    The V6 tech forum? :D

I'll have to dig up a few "epic threads" from a few other forums.

There have been a few over the years on various forums such as the guy that poured the energy drink NOS in the gas tank, guy that drained oil by taking off cap and revving car, and im sure more will come to mind

    My favorites have always been:

"What the best sounding exhaust to get?" (even SN is becoming rice central with these)

    --and--

"How much HP will it make?" (Good lawd... REALLY????)

The guy that poured the NOS drink in to his bike has to be the best thread of all time.

Of course there is the guythat ran sand through his running engine to polish the intake runners. Or the F body guy that ran a garden hose to his oil fill and started the motor to clean out the old oil.

Wow. Not as over the top, but there was one on here where a guy thought his mechanical fuel pump eccentric was a "cam balancer", and even though he had an electric fuel pump he swore the car ran like chit after he removed it, because his cam was out of balance. When he put said balancer back on, the engine smoothed out and ran right.

Hey, in all fairness, the muffler game is pretty much balanced out these days. Some will make a little more power than the rest, but the important part is that they flow well enough, so IMO sound quality is really the biggest deciding factor in buying mufflers. If that's rice, i guess i'll have mine with a side of General Tso's. For me it just so happens that one of my favorite sounding mufflers is also one of the best flowing (Magnaflow).

That was actually a 1994 Cobra. And it was definitely the dumbest one I've seen yet.

That's how a stupid person takes care of a simple problem. I'd sooner hammer a socket onto the lug or hell weld the damn thing on first before i destroyed the rim.

Yeah, I laughed at that pretty good too. Shoulda drilled the head off the bolt and unscrewed it by hand after pulling the wheel. LOL'd at broken titanium tap. Titanium, what a tool. Pun intended.

I've done the hammered on socket trick before. Just go to the parts store and buy a cheap socket that almost fits over it and pound that sucker on. It'll ruin the socket since you'll never get the lug back out but that's why you buy a cheap one.

Joe (Underpressure GT) owns some of the most classic threads on SN.

The wheel coming off of his GT because he used wheel spacers and didnt have enough wheel stud left.
Almost daily asking for advice on what he should do and then go do exactly the opposite. Then cry about blowing his engine up or what ever went wrong...... Theres tons of threads from his stupidity.
