I just purchased a 2001 6cyl for my daughter. I have seen take off wheels and tires 16" &17" from 2005 & 2006 Mustangs for bargain prices. I can not seem to get a straight answer as to fitment of 05/06 wheels to my car.

I have been told" they will not fit", "they will fit the front only" and "may fit the rear with a spacer". Has anyone put 05/06 16s or 17s on their pre 05 ?
Thanks.

the wheels are the same size and should fit without a problem. if the factory tires come on them, thats where you might run into a problem. the tire on the new model is taller than the old model. you will either have to buy new tires or measure very carefully and get the computer calibrated for the new taller tire.

if your car has 15" wheels, it has 205/65/15 tires
if your car has 16" wheels, it has 225/55/16 tires
normal tire size for a 17" wheel for your model is 245/45/17

the new 16" wheels have a 215/65/16 tire and measure 16x7 - .25" taller sidewall than 15" wheel, .5" wider, 1.5" taller overall... .65" taller sidewall than 16" wheel, .4" narrower, 1.25" taller overall
the new 17" wheels have a 235/55/17 tire and measure 17x8 - .15" shorter sidewall than 15" wheel, 1.2" wider, 1.7" taller overall... .2" taller sidewall than 16" wheel, .4" wider, 1.5" taller overall

it sounds like both will fit, but it will be close

hope this helps

the offset on the 17" wheel is +45mm. im not too sure about the v6.

the 2001 17" wheel has a +32mm offset. most aftermarket wheels have a +24 to +27mm offset. i think this means all you need is a spacer to make up the difference. it will fit as far as total size and bolt pattern/circle.

if your lookin for an alternative to those, you can get some cheap wheels at mustangtuning.com
