Where to get valve cover gaskets?

Fel-Pro permadry plus are made like that too. They are some type of rubber with some metal in the middle and the also have the rings in them. They are reuseable. That's what I've got and I like them. You can get them at Autozone.

Cavallo nailed it - they rock; FelPro makes one that's constructed in a similar fashion. I don't know the FelPro info. I believe the Ford gaskets are part number XL2Z-9433-AA (not certain - the receipt is incomplete in the description). I paid $26 for them. Just ask your dealer to pull up the number for gaskets for a 96-00 Explorer V-8 or Mercury Mountaineer. Then take a look at them - they should be metal coated with rubber.
