I got a mail order oil pan and it has a metric plug and the thread engagement is a lot less than the old one from my orig 289. I don't need to take a chance of having an early stripped pan drain plug hole.

New motor is 302, but same pan as 289.
Where did your get your oil pan?

We've used thes guys products several times. Check them out. You can have them make a custome pan so you can get a drain any size you want.

    Thanks guys
I found one at Virginia Classic, oem style with 1/2-20 thread and an actual "nut" welded in addition behind the backing plate.
