Dammit I meant to post this in tech

I am and Im just wondering if anyone else is doing it consistently. If I do upgrade axles, is it even worth the hassle of 31 spline, or can a nice set of 28s do the job just as well. Im going racing again next weekend and Im going to be trying to cut a 1.6x 60' to get into the 12s and I am becoming paranoid of snapping an axle. I launch the car around 5000rpm.

I posted this vid in another thread yesterday but for those who never saw this is how the car launches. This was a 13.25 run with a 1.75 60'. However, the car did a best of 13.16 at 103.5 yesterday

I've seen a mustang with a 4 cylinder rear end do 1.7 60' times...but they have the same axles.

Ran 1.60 60 foot times in my old 83 Vert with a stock 8.8 with drag radials. Never had a problem. Drove to and from the track. :nice:

Ive run high 1.7X 60's on stock axles. Ive never even doubted them. Well maybe a few times but I wouldn't doubt them anymore.

We do have close cars actually lol. Hopefully this weekend Ill cut that 1.6x I need to get into the 12s. Im gonna increase the tire pressure from 15-16 psi to eliminate that dead hook and bit of a bog that I am getting

I run low 1.6's with stock axles and ET streets. Launching at 5500. Im sure they are the weekest link in my setup but i don't race at the track that often, just cruise around.

Yeah... but when they do break... it can be ugly. the stockers are pretty tough. The splines arn't usually the weak point, it's the actuall shaft.

i second that....all of the broken axle cases i have seen are when the shaft actually snaps...not the splines

I came into this thread thinking my 1.87 60 ft was cool, but I was proven wrong...................lol I was launching at 4000k with a nasty bog. What does everyone recommend me launching with my wrinkles, 5000k? I have a 3.35 (unfortuanately) 1st gear ratio with 3.73's.

I have stock axles and I am running 1.6's but I cringe everytime I drop the clutch at the track. I will be upgrading soon as I do not want to replace my rear quarters when they do break!

MACn, I have a 3.35 first gear and 3.73s and drop the clutch at 5000-6250. My best 60s came from 5000-5200 though, a little spin, jujst enough to stop the bog!

1.72 on BFG drag radials feathering it out from 3500, 1.97 on street tires. No new times on my mickies, but i am positive its going to be 1.6x's... ;-) Stock axles.
