ok, long story short, my plastic intake cracked and i bought a replacement intake, forgetting about the warranty. so i call the dealer and they look up my VIN and tell me "yeah, its covered under the extended 7 year, unlimited mile warranty, tow it in!" so i tow it in, then meet with the advisor later that day and he tells me he'll start workin first thing in the morning today (friday). so today i get a call and he tells me they cant cover the intake b/c im out of my warranty by 4 days!!!! thats ridiculous. so i work with a guy who knows the service manager there, so he called him up and asked him to "take care of me". that was this morning, i havent heard back from them.

if it were my dealership, we would have goodwilled the claim without even blinking an eye. STUPID FORD!!

You have to see it from a dealerships point of view. If they send in the warranty claim of your vehicle for the intake repair and ford kicks it back, guess who has to pay for it, the dealership. Ford is a very cheap company and they get worse every year about stuff, you should see some of the tsb repairs they have us doing to save money.

He had it towed in because when your intake manifold cracks at the front coolant crossover you will be spewing coolant all over the place, leading to the vehicle overheating.

Man, my situation was just as ****ty. I was one week (6 days) over when mine cracked. They wouldn't do anything but explained that since the 'warranty' is really the result of a class action lawsuit, that they couldn't fix it. If it were a Ford warranty deal then they would have. It made me a little less pissed but not much .... If a factory part is defective (Ford's fault) and it fails 20 years from now, it should be covered (IMO)

Thats not ford thats the dealer. We save our goodwills for customers that do cash work with us or ones we really feel bad for.

I know it sounds mean to save them for people that service with us but we are a business not the salvation army, we take care of our PAYING customers first. As far as I am concerned that is a perk of spending more for dealer service.

Now all customers have the right to take it up with Ford and if the ford rep authorizes the work and it does not count against us then we have no problem doing the work even if we never seen you before or if you are a warranty only customer.

Plus we only get so many goodwill or AWA dollars we can spend before the warranty police show up and raid the dealer. really I am not kidding.. They track warranty dollars and hours spent and if a dealer is over in lets say front end work compared to the rest of the zone then the warranty police come and each time they show up it cost at least 10 grand, The warranty police are not like real police we have no rights with them.

I am not trying to be a dick and I feel bad for you, but you are in the business you tell me, where do you draw the line. One day out? one year out? one week out?

We just do it simple at my work, we look at total dollars spent at the dealer and your ro's and if we see lines with all w's and no c's next to them then you are not good enough of a customer for us to spend our AWA dollars on.

Now one **** you do have is they had you tow it in and then told you.. That is not right.

    Exaclty..

Yup, we had the warranty police at my work a few years ago. Not fun :nono:.

Many people brag and swear they do all their own work and would never bring it to the dealer and then when they don't get the "extra" favor from the dealership they wonder why. (not addressed to DerekStangGT by the way)

yeah, i understand im not a great customer since i do all my own work, and im sure they were pissed about my mods anyway, but 4 days past the warranty is just stupid. Ford messed up by putting a low quality part on their vehicles, and only giving 7 years is not a whole lot anyway. the part should eb covered for the life of the vehicle. my sisters 98 GT cracked too, but before they went to court and extended the warranty, so she ended up paying for that one too. its no wonder Ford and Chevy are losing money faster than they can make it.

I agree that it's a low quality part and ford botched the design. but ford has followed what the NTSB has required of them.

BTW a lifetime replacement will never happen on any recall.. The NTSB figures if you got 7 years then you got your moneys worth.

Couldn't you just order the intake from summit racing ($205) do the swap yourself (pretty easy) and then submit the bill to ford and get reimbursed?? Wasnt ford paying a while back for this sort of thing??

ford stopped reimbursing a couple years ago i think. and you need to have your receipt for labor.

btw, i just called ford, and the representative said that the program ended in march '06, so any coverage beyond that point would be void. the letter to the dealers was dated december '05, so ford gave it 3 whole months. ive got some pretty choice 4 letter words for ford right now

from ford maybe. honda has a lifetime warranty on their seat belt buckles which go out as often as ford's manifolds crack

a lube tech can put seat belt buckles on a car. you are talking about pulling the whole intake.

ford and gm lose money because they are the supporting 50years worth of employees. take away medical and other pensions that no other companies offered in the US and they are making money.

people that think these things should have lifetime warranties are crazy. ive got another thing you guys might be interested in....socialism.
