I've got a weird question but thought I'd ask if anyone else has tried. I found a replacement hood for my 87 stang and am going to go pick it up today. I was going to borrow a buddies truck but cant. So I got to thinking, will the 5.0 hood fit in the back of a hatchback mustang? I know its a weird question, from my measurements it looks like it could but has anyone actually tried? Thanks
how far do you have to go. If you really cant get a truck id try to tie to the roof. Otherwise wait for the truck. Edit: after picturing it in my head, the hood is a bit narrower than the car. It might just fit.
Yes it will fit. Just did it last week as a matter of fact. Put it in with the front facing forward... you will have to tilt the rear of it down and lift the front over the wheel wells and it WILL slide in there.
I dont know what the situation is, but cant you take whatever hood you have on the car off and just bolt the new one to the car for the ride home?
No, they don't fit. Had to take one home for a friend in that back of my truck. Borrow or beg a truck.
Could you close the hatch? I would like to see a pic of that. I tried it with a 4 inch cowl hood last year and didn't even come close to fiting in there.
Yes you can, my hood just flew off my car the other day (stolen hood pins) i had to pick it up off the road and stick it into the hatch. I have no back seats but still should fit either way.
When I sold my hood the buyer showed up in a hatchback and he fit it in there. I sold a Cervini's cobra fox hood.
The hood did fit into hatchback Well the hood DID fit into the hatchback better then I thought, it was a little tricky getting it over the wheel humps but it fit and was able to close the hatch without a problem. So for anyone in the future who wonders..."will a hood fit into the back hatch of a mustang"......the answer is YES it will
The only problem I can see, is it might not fit in a 90-93 model due to the revised inner quarter panel plastic for the 3 point seatbelt. I fit a hood in my car no problem with the original 87 interior, and I was able to fit a 4x8 sheet of plywood also (eventhough it hung out the back about 3 feet!). But with the newer 90 model panels I have now, I know I can no longer fit a 4x8 sheet of plywood. I haven't tried a hood again, but it is possible it may not fit either.
Wish I had thought of testing this out in Frankenstang's Capri when we had an extra '86 Fox hood laying around, since she has a '90 interior in it. Of course, I guess if we got bored enough, we could just unbolt her Capri's hood and see if it'll slide in back there...
