Wilwood, Front brakes:

Has someone tried to modify the 12,19" rotor kits below to fit a Mustang 65-67 or 70 spindle?

Early ford, 1937-48, #140-8583
Pinto / Bobcat, 1971-80, #140-7017
Mustang II, 1974-78, # 140-7017

Wilwoods own kits for early Mustangs has only 11,75" rotors, which is a "poor" match to their 12,19" rear disc brake kits (with parking brake).

I am pretty sure you can, I can find out for sure tomorrow for you. I have Cobra Automotive's "Big spindle" which I pretty sure is the large bearing 70 spindle. I also Have the wilwood SL6 Big Brake Front hub kit for a 1971-1980 Pinto 1974-1978 Mustang II Part No: 140-7018-B. Ill give CA a call and find out what spindle it is for sure, I can't rember off the top of my head. So I would figure you could do the same just with the different kit.

I have to keep digging, around i know i have better pictures of the whole setup.

LW,

I'm a little confused by your question. Do you want to modify the Wilwood 12.19"
rear brake kit to fit on the front spindle?
If so, I would think that would be more trouble then it is worth.

If your just looking for a 13" Front brake set up to complement the Wilwood 12.19" rears,
then Global West makes a nice kit that fits '70 large pin spindles -

That Wilwood kit from Summit will change your wheel offset - 1/2" outboard.

Hi Tim;

I want to use the #140-7143 rear kit with 12.19" rotors in rear, and a matching front kit with 12.19" rotors.

I do not want to go with bigger rotors, since I'm running both street & strip 15" tires (0 and 6mm offset).

Regards;
/Lars

Lars,

I don't think you are going to get those 12.19" rotors inside a set of 15" wheels.
You are going to need to stick with 11.75" rotors for 15" wheels.

Check out the HotRodsUSA site - http://hotrodsusa.com/ - it is very informative
and has some well put together kits.

Tim

Thanks for the link & tip Tim.

Seems like I need to have a thorough look 15" rims fitment with 12,19" front rotors.

However, Summits homepage says min. wheel size is 15"..

I've had a look at Cobra Automotive's homepage, and their "Big spindle" appears to be the 70-73 drum spindle, which is close to my 70 disc spindles.

68FBJJZ109; What kind of modifications did you perform? Modification of the caliper bracket? New bracket? etc

Need your help here.

Regards;
