Just thought I'd share: I took a small highway trip of about 75 miles today to visit a local Mustang shop and get the scoop on the place. I made a vow to myself to behave and try to maximize highway fuel economy...I wanted to see what it'd do if I was "good". When I was within spitting distance of the highway, I filled the GT with a couple of clicks of the pump and set off. At first I loped along at 110KPH (about 68MPH) and then, as I saw I was becoming something of a pylon to other traffic, sped up to 120KPH (75MPH) and stayed largely in the slow lanes, resisting temptation to get on it. Kept her on the cruise as much as possible and when passing did so with as little additional throttle as I could...you know, trying to keep my foot out of it. I kept the AC off and since it was stinkin' hot out, I kept the windows down. I even got stuck in a jam that lasted perhaps 10 minutes...idling, accelerating, braking, never getting out of 2nd gear. When I hit the off-ramp, I found the first available gas station and tanked up again. The thing took 8.927L (2.358 US gallons) to go 119.1KM (74.4375 miles). This worked out to an amazing (to me) 31.6MPG highway mileage ... in my Mustang. I didn't think the car had this in it. I was amazed. I recall taking my other car, a 2002 Volkwagen GTI 1.8T, on the highway recently and driving somewhat "harder" (140KPH -- 87MPH -- average, little cruise control use, using the boost to get around slower traffic etc) and getting "only" 30MPG then. If I drove it as gently as I did the Mustang I'm sure it'd get mid 30s at least but still...31MPG highway out of the MGT! I have to assume my few simple bolt-ons have actually helped fuel economy if the car is driven with eye toward maximizing efficiency. What sort of highway MPG do you guys get when the car is driven "responsibly"?
i pulled 23 with my 3.90's going to the beach. kept it about 80 mph the whole way. i have yet to see what it will get with the s/c. i just cant resist getting on it for an entire tank.
Yeah I did it once but man was it hard not to get on it at lights or stop sings doing around town driving. I ended up getting 220 miles out of the tank but it’s no fun to drive like that. I usually get 185-200 out of a tank doing all city driving.
i get about 225ish to the tank. I dont drive to bad but im also not out there for fuel economy either.
I can usually get around 21mpg in the city, without having to stay out of it.. And about 24mpg on the highway, not staying out of it and usually cruising at 78mph.. this is with my 3.73's
I did that on thursday for the first time... got about 20mpg avg(hilly) (digression)I quickly found that 65 was fine in O.C., but in riverside county 75mph was often necessary, once i slowed down a realized all the reckless speeding cars were japanese small suv's and econo ****box car's. All the same cars that got to "work the lanes" to keep up when im cruising in the fast lane, and they could have stayed behind me. Or the best were people who just have to pass, even if there's nowhere to pass. I thought another camry was going to fly off the freeway at a lane merger. he ducked out like he was late braking a nsx past a mustang in a hairpin turn(but the mustang was a big rig and a small vehicle). I was like WTF He totally didnt make it.
If I cruise (using cruise control) at 110 KPH I get about 32 miles per gallon. Boring but great on gas. OPP on the 401 has almost "0" tolerance these days,...
I think my best range was around 320 to a tank, best MPG was mid/upper 23's mixed city highway, and of course getting on the gas.
Not absolutely sure, but I think the CDN gallon is a bit bigger that the US gallon, so that might make the difference in MPG calculations with you guys in the US.
Anyone else notice that the mustangs from canada trap better than us in the 1/4 AND get 30+MPG?????? Whats up with that? LOL
30.5 mpg on a 130 mile round trip. I set cruise control at 105mph, engine read 3krpm. All highway. My usual 75mph highway driving, which rpm is at like 2200, I get 24.5, which i've tested twice since I got the car. City I have no idea, but probably could never get an accurate idea, because I like to launch sometimes, pretty much every time I get in the car LOL. :SNSign:
Hey Hot,... do the conversion LOL,.... It is kind of like comparing apples to oranges,... I can imagine if the same amount of fuel was added to each car consumption would be pretty much the same no matter where you are,...Use cruise control, it will save you a lot of gas!
The US gallon I used in my calcs is 3.785 litres according to this site: http://www.onlineconversion.com/volume.htm and a mile is about 1.6-kilometers. I'm pretty sure the math is within a short & curly of exact. I definitely have to try this again to see if it's a fluke or a measuring issue of some sort. On the way back I drove more "normally" for me and got about 19MPG (extended use of 4th gear with 3.73s at highway speeds means a fair amount of time near or above 4000RPM...)
I've noticed with these car you drive the gas mileage. If you drive conseritive you'll get 30MPG+,and if you drive like an ass you'll get more like in the 20's. For a V8 these cars are really good on gas, but what the hell did we buy them for good gas mileage I think not. This is the Mustang your talkin about.
