WTF with the new taurus!?

its has 265 horses!!
the last model only had 153!
how am i suppose to make fun the the american FAMILY car now?:notnice:

this is :bs: :bang: :Track:

ours ('01 dohc) has 200hp, doesnt feel like it though. i guess they finally decided they need to compete with the nissans (plus i think its a bigger overall car than the last one).

Are we talking about a new model or the last models made? I was reading that Ford was doing away with the 500 and bringing the Taurus back because it was such a huge seller.

Kinda scary how far technology is coming.

My V8 Mustang GT only has 260HP, and cars like the Toyota Avalon, Maxima and now Taurus have more HP.

Of course, a Mustang still weighs a hell of a lot less, has more torque and a manual gearbox...but still.

I'd love to see the Taurus SHO come back. V8 w/AWD :nice:

The new Taurus IS a Ford 500. There have been some changes, but basically Ford is returning to it's old cars. Lincolns line-up has gone through the same name changes. The Zephyr is now the MKZ

I heard the Ford Focus will become the Ford Escort again as well

all these new cars 200 something horse means nothing.

wow they can get a v6 or 4 cyl to make a peak of 250 something horsepower. but look at the torque figure, i would guess its under 200 ft lbs. and torque is the actual FORCE and engine makes. all the "pushing back in the seat" and smoking tires is not horse power. its torque horsepower is simply a figure of how fast the torque is working in a way.

when you slap heads and intake and cams and what not, putting that stuff on increases the torque output of the engine, and you want your horsepower figure to go up the make the car move efficiently.

i hate hearing kids going "my new civic makes more HP than a 5.0 mustang, i could smoke one"

then you get them out on the road against your mild bolt on fox. you know just exhaust and simple stuff, and the mustang will EAT IT ALIVE. the reason why is the honda is make its 230 HP or w/e they are making, WOW now take a look at the torque figure, then you find something like 150ft lbs. WOW that sucks.

look at the mustang, in stock form it makes twice as much as pretty much any car out now, 300 ft lbs. 300 ft lbs in a factory car is PRETTY nice in a factory car even today. and the mustang had this back in 87.

this in my opinion is still why a 5.0 still stomps things to this day and still suprises people and still is a benchmark for performance

so all these guys 4 doors and imports making more peak HP numbers going around saying they can beat a 5.0 or w/e can go F off. sure you got this "HIGH" horsepower number but if you have no torque to back it up your not going anywhere.

you must remember Horsepower is not a force, its a figure. torque is what you feel when you feel your gut sinking back towards the seat. and i like when my gut moves around in a fast car feels like a roller coaster.

These new cars are making better torque numbers that previously made by little v6's

I agree they are not as flat as a v8, and dont always peak as high, but they are doing better.

Right now i'm looking into purchasing a Volvo S60R. It comes with a turbo 5-banger and makes 300HP and 298 ft-lbs of torque...which is impressive from a 5-banger. I've seen dyno sheets on stock runs as well and it's a pretty flat torque curve.

A lot of otrher cars are making well over 200 ft-lbs. They aren't in mustang territory yet, but Nissan, infinity ford toyota and others are making v6's with at least 250 ft-lbs

Yes the flat torque does still give it the edge. As a wise man once said "HP sells cars, TQ wins races" :)

i agree...but i always thought of HP as how fast you can go and TQ as how fast you can get there...giving HP a little more credit than what you're saying. you can have 400ft/lb or torque, but if it's on a 20hp motor, you're probably not going to be moving very fast. jmo

Yea, that new 3.5 Duratec is a solid engine. The whole Duratec line is solid, from the 2.5 on up. I saw a 2.5 once that was so sludged up, you wouldn't have thought it could run....but it didn't even make a tick. Ran like a champ.

We are going to test drive a new ford Edge tomorrow we want one with the 3.5, only has like 250 lb-ft, but it is supposed to handle and get around pretty damn quickly. If we get it, my mom could drive my mustang...

This is a bit off topic but i read a thing the other day about the new DOHC V8 that BMW is using in the next M3....something like 4.0 liters and 450hp all motor with a redline north of 8k....that's baaadass.

I wouldn't unless it has very low mileage. Im a tech at a transmission shop. I do more taurus transmissions, especially the ones built between 97-05 than any other cars. They start to go out at about 120,000 miles.

Thanks for that info. Ive been looking at a few cars, nothing fast, newer taurus was one of them. Im still looking at some lincolns and newer impalas.

yeah, that seems to me like a f1 (sort of) style engine as I understand it. Very short stroke, high revving.

another OT thing, but I beat my uncles Lexus LS460L!! It was funny as ****, it is an 80k dollar car that he traded his Maserati Quaddraporte(sp?) for... IDK WTF he was thinking. I got him by about 1.5 lengths to 70, andhis car supposedly 380 hp and 380 tq!
Sorry for thephone pics...
