I haven' tbeen able to get a straight answer from comp cams about this.. they recommend the 262xe or 270h. But compared to the 270h, the 268 is advertised to start making power earlier (1600 rpm vs 1800 for the 270), and supposedly the point of the xtreme energy line is to produce more torque/usable power in the lower/mid-range rpms compared to the magnum and high energy lines. Both would seem to indicate that you could use the 268xe with a stock converter...

Has anyone tried this? It'd be on a 351 with the tranny/gear ratios listed below. The actual #'s on the cam are 268 intake/280 exhaust advertised duration, 224/230 duration at .050, .510/.512 i/e lift with 1.6 rocker, power band is 1600-5800.

Thanks.

I have used a bigger cam than that in a 302 with a stock TC. It was not the best set up, but had no trouble spinning small street tires, Mustang II. A 351 would tame it some. I would buy the cam you want and start saving for the TC. Good carb tuning and proper timing at idle will be the key.
