Ford Mustang to star in Need for Speed movie

We’ve all been there at some point…crouched over the QWERTY, with a gaming mouse or at the console with a controller or steering wheel in-hand; swerving, smoking tires, and avoiding pursuit in the virtual racing world.  The ‘Need for Speed’ series of games has captured audiences worldwide for nearly 20 years and isn’t about to leave any thrill untouched.  Know what’s even cooler?  A group of producers has teamed up and roped in the Ford Mustang for an actual movie based upon the video game series.  There’s no solid word on the title just yet, but you can safely bank it will somehow tie in the long-standing Need for Speed moniker in order to take advantage of the franchise’s successes.

The Ford Mustang in the movie is reported to be a 900hp variant, powered by the all-aluminum, 5.8-liter, supercharged V8…not too bad at all, considering America’s favorite pony car will be ripping the roadways with a healthy collection of global exotics and supercars, no doubt.  As for the timing of when we get to see it all–it’s presently pinned for March of next year, right along with the Mustang 50th Anniversary.  How convenient, right?

Cool?  Corny?  Meh?  Regardless of how you react, it’s going to be a cool sight to see, if at the least to say it’s the X-thousandth time you have spied a Ford Mustang in a production silver screen product…  Follow the jump for the video.

Barbie Power Wheels Ford Mustang on the dyno

C’mon, you know the thought has passed through your head, too.  We’ve all wondered what it’d be like to toss something on the dyno for kicks, and hey, what better than a smaller scale of our favorite pony car–Barbie’s pink Ford Mustang a la Power Wheels?  Exactly.

Check out the video above to see Barbie’s hot rod in action, putting down some chuckle-worthy power to the wheels.  If anything, you’ll get a good laugh out of it…all of us here at StangNet HQ certainly did!

Shelby GT500 Ford Mustang dyno shred video

Have you ever seen a Ford Mustang on a dynamometer?  Sure, many of us have.  Have you ever witnessed a dyno seize up while in action?  Maybe.  Well, has anyone caught a dyno seizing up and throwing in the towel with a Shelby GT500 putting down the power at the wheels?  Possibly.

But by now, we’re sure everyone has at least heard of this one.  It’s quite viral, and we are sure it’s made quite the impact on anyone who’s ever signed that waiver when putting their queen upon the dyno throne.

So go ahead, take a view, and see what you think.  Pretty sure we’d be the last to attend such a show at close range ever again.

Why yes, it is a NASCAR-powered Ford Mustang

Ever wonder what it would be like to modify a Ford Mustang to have more power for miles of smiles?  Hah, pure rhetoric, right?  What Mustang fanatic hasn’t gotten bitten by the modification bug and not been able to leave well enough alone?  These are of but a few, that’s for sure.

One of those bitten (and seriously infected) by the bug is Marc Sorger, the general manager at The Mustang Shop, a facility dedicated to Mustang restorations and tuning.  Marc, like so many before (and after) wanted more, so he took his 2008 Mustang GT and gave it some upgrades to bolster the output to 724hp on the pavement.  So, was that enough?  Nope, it never is.

The short story of this one is Marc took a NASCAR engine from Mark Martin’s Pfizer race car and slapped it into his 2008 Mustang GT.  The rest, as they say, is history…and the video here and the other moving pictures at Motor Authority will get you the “rest of the story”.

Vaughn Gittin Jr and the 845hp 2014 Ford Mustang RTR

So…are you ready to rock in a 2014 Ford Mustang?  Take one out for a solid, smoky solid drift session, perhaps?  If you aren’t, then you’d better check your pulse.  If you can’t take your own 2014 Mustang out and shred some tires, then get ready to live vicariously through drift-master Gittin in action this Formula Drift season.  Vaughn is totally set to jet in his new 845 horsepower 2014 Mustang RTR as well as take on the new role of team owner as well as the driver this go ’round.

“I’m really pumped on this years’ livery and overall aesthetics surrounding our efforts,” says Vaughn. “For the first time in my career, I have been able to start from a clean slate and get a bit crazy with the look of my car that I will be using for battle. Being that the Mustang is my weapon of choice out there on the track, the base of the livery was inspired from old battle ships that were covered with ‘dazzle camo’. From there, we added my XX5 (#25) logo and flag elements, along with some of my favorite colors and a little rock n’ roll to get a livery that I feel really portrays me. I look forward to giving it some real battle scars!”

Tribute 2013 Shelby GT500 hit the block

Remember earlier this week, we told you the Barrett-Jackson auction would have a host of Ford Mustang specimens up for grabs?  Well, one in particular caught our eye earlier this afternoon.  A one-off special edition 2013 Shelby GT500 Mustang hit the block and ended up ticking out a healthy$150,000 closing price.  This dollar amount benefits a good charitable cause, so it’s not just another high-priced Mustang sale all for naught.  This car is also signed by Ford CEO Alan Mulally as well as Bill Ford Jr, and Edsel Ford.
