2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 convertible officially at 650hp09 Feb

We all know the Ford Mustang variants holding the Shelby nameplate are sure to attract attention and notoriety from production onto the after life in Leno’s basement.  This go ’round, the new 2013 Ford Shelby GT 500 Convertible is back to mark-up the Ford Special Vehicle Team (SVT, for the acronym fiends) and its 20th Anniversary.  As if the 2013 GT500 convertible wasn’t awesome enough in vanilla form, the optional Performance Package makes this venomous snake nearly 3.5 seconds quicker at Sebring than last year’s model.  Impressive!  How so, you might ask?  Key features making the feat a reality are the 5.8-liter supercharged V8 (650hp), Bilstein electronic adjustable dampers, and Brembo braking are just a few helpers along the way.

There are a few other nifty features Ford’s applied to this Shelby GT500 rendition–keep reading to see it all in the official Press Release from Ford.

What happens when you are out after dark in a 2013 Ford Mustang and you can’t quite make out where the curb is…or you want to make sure people know (beyond the exhaust note) what you just rolled up in?  Ford’s got the answer with a slick, albeit borderline tacky, new option on the new 2013 Mustang.  It is a pony projection light which is portrayed via the lenses beneath the side view mirrors.  Activated immediately after the driver unlocks the door, this projection is sure to let you, and everyone else within the area, know for sure it’s a legend you have ridden into town.

1967 Ford Mustang Convertible shell now available20 Dec

Just about two months ago, we showed off the “new” 1965 Ford Mustang shell blessed by Ford, and now, there’s more to the story here as we near Christmas time.  Today, we read the 1967 Ford Mustang convertible will also join the 1965 Ford Mustang shell already in-demand, and is the fourth reproduction body officially licensed by Ford Motor Company.  The price for this Dynacorn classic Ford Mustang shell?  Just shy of $16K, so doing that restomod of your dreams really isn’t going to break the bank, getting it done right.

So what makes this one so special?  Well, to make the cut, these aftermarket players & pieces have to meet (and often exceed) the fit, finish, and quality of the original production shells & panels.  Well, that should be a decent feat to meet, we think, as there has been a great deal of technological and manufacturing refinement since the mid-1960s.  All this aside, the very notion these shells are becoming commonplace in the time of classic Ford Mustang scarcity (at least non-hack jobs) is pretty cool.  We’re pretty pumped up about it!

Ford says 200mph was the 2013 Shelby GT500 goal14 Dec

As if the news of the 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 receiving 650 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque wasn’t awesome enough, we also found the new Shelby snake was to be capable of 200mph.  When we read the details of this 200mph GT500 feat back in November, we were (for the lack of a better term here) floored.  C’mon, 200mph (stable) from a Mustang?  Crazy enough, it’s just what Ford had in mind the entire time.

Keep reading to get more on this fantastic accomplishment by Ford, Shelby and the SVT engineers & designers.

We all know one of the best Ford Mustang rebirths of legend in the past year has been the 2012 Boss 302 Mustang…hands down.  The return of the infamous Ford 5.0-liter V8 power plant has done more for the Mustang brand than simply power the 2012 Mustang GT with a 5-oh, it has redefined a new sense of world-class quality within the Ford vehicle lineup.

Ford the 2012 year, Wards Auto has named the Ford Mustang Boss 302 V8 engine as one of the 10 best in contention.  After capping 2011 with honors, the Ford 5.0 redux has once again shown its blue blood takes the cake in the categories of excellence, refinement, quality, and most importantly to us, power with reliability.  What’s more, the Mustang’s 5.0 V8 was the largest displacement engine in the top 10 and the sole v-banked 8-cylinder to receive notoriety.  Even more interesting?  The 5.0 is amongst good company on the top 10 list, with other makes like Audi and BMW padding up the additional awards.
