Video of the awesome Boss Mustang TracKey18 Feb

After we showed you the 2012 Mustang BOSS 302 from Ford Racing and its awesome TracKey feature back in November, we got lots of questions on when we would see this new tech in action. Our inquisition is now pacified…

This little piece of pocket tech from Ford Racing allows for direct personality shift between street and track performance trims. The standard black key does all the regular, simple functions one expects in a carved piece of metal. The red TracKey, however, engages a software program which changes over 200 power train parameters.

Hit the jump to see the BOSS 302 in action with the all-new TracKey technology.

On the eve of official 2012 Mustang Cobra Jet production, Ford Racing has thrown out some great tidbits and photos of the engine build process for our viewing pleasure. It’s pretty awesome to see the detailed creation of the all-aluminum 5.4-liter engine block & rotating assembly and how it makes its way, station by station, all the way to the supercharged monster which ultimately lands beneath the hood of the 2012 Cobra Jet.

We’ve got the gallery and text below, but if you want to get a more linear time line of the sexy supercharged 5.4-liter V8 engine build, be sure to check out the complete procession of the build over at the Ford Racing site!

201X Mustang – The Future?08 Feb

If there’s one thing Ford Mustang fans know all too well, it’s to not be complacent with today’s awesome Mustang GT, Shelby GT500, and other powerful aftermarket derivatives a la Mustang.  We’ve seen a lot of great things happen in 2010 and 2011, with 2012 only adding to the mix with the return of the Boss Mustang 302 and many other awesome attributes.  So now, what do we get excited about in the 2012 Mustang, the 2013 Mustang, 2014 Mustang, and beyond?  Will the Shelby GT500 slide to the wayside with a rebirth of the coveted SVT Cobra nameplate?  Will the Boss remain the king of the road and track?  What happens if the hippies win in D.C. and we step back to 4-cylinder engines, or gasp, electric power plants?  It’s tough to tell, but right now, all we have to say is “the sky is the limit”.

1-shot Grabber Blue 2012 Mustang Boss on the block08 Jan

UPDATE:  Sold for $450,00 at the auction!

Looks like the Blue Oval boys have set up an attention getter at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Laguna Seca, with a hotter than ever 2012 Mustang Boss 302 set to take stage and go home with a thick wallet.  The proceeds from the sale of this 2012 Boss will, like many Shelby auctions of recent, go for the benefit of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

This one-of-a-kind Grabber Blue Boss Mustang will sport more than the base Boss stuff.  It will also adorn black accents upon the roof, mirrors, and spoiler; will have a set of Recaro seats with Grabber Blue embroidery, and under the hood–a 444hp 5.0-liter V8.  Awesome.

Keep reading to get the full scoop in the PR from Ford.

2012 Mustang Boss offers up Jekyll & Hyde with 2 keys11 Nov

Prospective owners who eventually take the reins of the new 2012 Mustang Boss will be further surprised at the latest pet feature unveiled by Ford today.  The pony car will be offered in twin-key fashion; one key, adorned with a black Boss logo & another key in a racing red hue (the TracKey) which turns the Mustang Boss 302 into a tarmac-ripping beast.  This project was spearheaded by the Mustang engineering team, Ford Racing, and TracKey, adding a complete powertrain control module (PCM) program to be activated solely by the turn of a specific key.  Over 200 engine management settings are adjusted, increasing torque, engaging two-stage launch control, and summary aggressive performance in order to tackle the track.

So just how does the magic happen?  Keep reading to get a view from behind the curtain in the Ford Press Release.
