Today, the Ford cast & crew officially unveiled the 2011 Shelby GT500 in all its detailed glory. This time around, however, the latest GT500 has a few more niceties included and some even sweeter options to choose from. For 2011, the GT500 gets the aluminum block, supercharged 5.4-liter V8 power plant and starts just under $49,500, delivered. So aside from this standard hoofbeat, the 2011 GT500 also gets the chance for a SVT Performance Package to be applied to raise the performance bar even higher. We’ve teased about what this package includes…so what’s it got to ante up? How much bang for the buck has Ford packed into this latest Mustang offering? Keep reading to find out.

About a week ago, Ford let slip the pricing on the 2011 Mustang GT as well as the 2011 V6 Mustang, and this week, they’ve taken the shrink wrap off the 2011 Shelby GT500 order guide & pricing docs. It looks like the 2011 Shelby GT500 hardtop will carry a base price of $49,495, while the ragtop will wear a price of $54,495 on the window; these prices include destination & delivery. The Shelby GT500 order guide continues on to show us what we already expected to see under hood, with the aluminum block 5.4-liter V8 packing the pony car’s punch of 540hp.
News on the Shelby Ford Mustang front has somewhat settled for a bit, but we recently caught wind that the original concept Prudhomme Edition Shelby GT500 Super Snake Mustang is headed to Barrett-Jackson in a couple of months. Unless you’ve been living under a rock for this past week, you’re well aware of the onslaught of Ford Mustang packages recently announced by Shelby Automobiles. Several packages to upgrade the first generation S197 (2005 through 2009) Mustangs and announcement of the 2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake (pictured above) were detailed to the public just a few days ago. All of the new Shelby packages can be applied to the Mustang GT, Shelby GT, and the Shelby GT500 pony cars currently in ownership circulation. Ready for the laundry list of Shelby applications? Brace yourselves; this might be just a bit much. There is almost a half-dozen new Ford Mustang combinations based upon Mustangs people already own. C’mon, Shelby…a twist on the old adage (you can get too much of a good thing) might come to fruition here and end up with a dreaded backfire. Commercialism and marketing of something artistic and unique is a good thing…until it becomes overly common. Continue Reading →
When it comes to the Ford Mustang and its faithful fan following, there are always great stories and memories involved. We’ve seen the 2010 Mustang given away to one of our Armed Services personnel. We’ve seen some great video productions in a recent Ford video contest. We’ve witnessed firsthand how a Shelby GT500 changed the way people think about Mustang modification. There is one recent unique story we’d like to share at this point: how a blind man got the chance of a lifetime when he won a (spirited) test drive in a brand new 2010 Mustang convertible. Roger Keeney had always dreamed of driving a new Ford Mustang, but since being blinded in 1990, he hasn’t quite had the chance to do so, let alone drive any car. Continue Reading →
