Track Day Ford Mustang Honors WWII Veterans

There have been quite a few Ford Mustang stories in the headlines these past weeks with regard to memorializing special interest causes, veterans, and tributes in general to motorsport legends (Carroll Shelby’s passing).  Well, honestly, there’s no such thing as too many, so here’s one more to enjoy.  Shannon Moore has a tie back to World War II via her grandfather, and had her sights set on the WWII memorial in DC, with him riding along.  What’s more, Shannon has also latched onto HonorFlight.org, an organization tasked with assisting veterans in getting veterans the chance to personally visit their respective memorial(s).

Since hearing of this incredible initiative, Shannon, her crew chief, and Rehagen Racing’s Dean Martin have put the skids on a Mustang in order to be the ultimate track car as a tribute.  Shannon’s racer boy girl Mustang is hued in Furious Fuschia, has loads of performance goodies, and is completely track-ready for paying tribute to the Fallen and the Honored we still owe a debt of gratitude to.

Ford ‘Red Tails’ Edition Mustang GT at AirVenture 2012

In case you missed the latest fantastic Ford Mustang to come out of the Dearborn brain trust, then get ready to set your sights on the “Red Tails” edition 2013 Mustang GT.  This past weekend held host to the annual (and amazing) EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh WI, where Ford’s engineering and design teams unveiled the Red Tails Mustang GT.  The car was to be sold at the Gathering of Eagles charity auction on July 26 to one lucky (and likely affluent) bidder, with proceeds going to charitable causes.

The 2013 Red Tails Mustang GT was designed to be an honorary tribute to the sacrifices & contributions of the Tuskegee Airmen of the 332nd Fighter Group and the 477th Bombardment Group during WW2.  This squad of P-51 Mustang pilots was the first African American unit in aerial action and flew over 1,500 missions–an impressive feat for any pilot in combat.  This 2013 Mustang GT is locked in with VIN 00051 to pay homage to the P-51 Mustang planes originally flown by these honorable Tuskegee Airmen, with its design cues signifying the aeronautic facets of history past.  Other features include a polished aluminum one-off paint job, a glass roof, numerous interior tweaks for an aviation theme, Recaro seating, and a Ford Racing 2.3-liter twin-screw Whipple supercharger.

Reversion Ford Mustang spotted in Detroit

After getting a tip on this new/old Ford Mustang spin-off being “local” to one of the StangNet staff, we figured we’d give a shout out to the Auto Kraft folks from Lincoln, Nebraska and their “Reversion Mustang.  The car itself is a complete retro throwback built upon today’s modern day Mustang platform and if you have not been able to catch it in person, you’re missing out.  The Reversion rendition of the Mustang is set to continue its tour through other popular Ford and Mustang events throughout the rest of this summer’s tour, having just completed a stint in Detroit…where several Ford field personnel made sure to pay close attention to the car’s attention to style and detail in workmanship.

Great job on this one, guys!
