Itinerary – Ford Mustang 50th Anniversary Celebration

Are you curious to know what day it is?  It’s Ford Mustang day, of course!  Our favorite pony car is now 50 years old, and marking the occasion are two incredible coastal events to keep all of us excited about the iconic Americana we have all enjoyed over the years.  Las Vegas and Charlotte are the two hot spots holding a barrage of entertainment, ranging from open-track racing, cruise-ins, ride alongs, exhibits, burnouts, dinners, and even foot races.  Wait, running?  Nah, we’ll drive.  Thanks, though.

Even so, be sure to keep reading, below, to take a glance at the PR clippings which totally detail the schedule of events by day, by hour.  This should keep you plenty busy, if you’re one of the fortunate ones to attend one of the events this Easter weekend.

50th Anniversary Special Edition Ford Mustang is here

Ready.  Set.  Now!  That’s it.  We are finally here, everyone.  Ford’s on the brink of showing us just how big their plans are for the Ford Mustang 50th Anniversary, and everyone will be at the edge of their seats.  Their first token of celebration–a throwback pony car, paying proper homage to the original 1964 Mustang which put all of this pomp & circumstance into position, for 50 years, and more to come.

This special edition 2015 Ford Mustang GT fastback will be colored in one of two choices:  Wimbledon White or Kona Blue.  In addition to legacy hues of honor, the special edition 50th Anniversary Mustang will come standard with nearly every potential option in the books, and the only question remaining for a buy will be “automatic or manual?”.  Not bad.

This is but the beginning of an avalanche in the news bit onslaught to come this week out of the Ford Motor Company camp, so with that, we turn it over to the official Ford Press Release, so you get the story straight from the source…

2015 Ford Mustang official intel

Now that the cat’s officially out of the bag, we suppose it is safe to offer up our two pence on the 2015 Ford Mustang.  But first things first:  EcoBoost–yes.  More powerful 5.oh V8–yes.  Independent rear suspension–yes.

OK, now with that out of the way, let’s focus upon the seemingly superficial things…like looks, looks, aaaaand looks.

The goal Ford proponed was a global platform, updates to the existing contemporary design, and conducting some “trimming” along the way to sleeken the overall Mustang appearance to the masses. So what’s that fancy-pants marketing jargon really mean? A lowered, wider stance obtained by a roof height reduction and extending the rear fenders out just-so, providing for a wider track…simply put.

At the same time, Ford’s quite excellently integrated the old-school fastback look with a sleeker windshield and rear glass angle. Look long and hard enough, and you can even get a twinge of Fox coupe design mixed into the 2015 Mustang crucible. Of course, tri-bar taillamps are out back, illuminating with standard sequential bulbs.

Inside, the continued ramp-up of sport technology continues to roll forward. Ford has put the pilot of the 2015 Mustang at the ready with aptly placed controls and switches, making the Mustang even more practical (dare we say?) than before.

We could go on and on for hours on this one, and let’s be honest, your attention has drifted a few times already to this point. So with that said, hop to the full Press Release and source material from Ford to get full disclosure on the 50th Anniversary Ford Mustang.

Hertz and Penske Racing Ford Mustang GT

Think you are ready for another rent-a-racer Ford Mustang?  Good thing, because the Ford and Hertz & Penske Racing alliance has resulted in one hot thing already this summer–a sporty Mustang GT to take up honors as the latest addition to the Hertz Adrenaline Collection.

The Hertz Penske Mustang GT can be found for rental at select US airport rental locations, and includes a healthy amount upgrades from the base late model Mustang trim.  Let’s start with a quad-tip exhaust system, a tuned ECU, 3.55 gears out back, and Brembo braking at all 4 corners.  Not bad…at all.  And of course, the Coyote 5.0-liter engine is underhood, cranking out an underrated (due to performance enhancements) 420hp.

Ford Mustang to star in Need for Speed movie

We’ve all been there at some point…crouched over the QWERTY, with a gaming mouse or at the console with a controller or steering wheel in-hand; swerving, smoking tires, and avoiding pursuit in the virtual racing world.  The ‘Need for Speed’ series of games has captured audiences worldwide for nearly 20 years and isn’t about to leave any thrill untouched.  Know what’s even cooler?  A group of producers has teamed up and roped in the Ford Mustang for an actual movie based upon the video game series.  There’s no solid word on the title just yet, but you can safely bank it will somehow tie in the long-standing Need for Speed moniker in order to take advantage of the franchise’s successes.

The Ford Mustang in the movie is reported to be a 900hp variant, powered by the all-aluminum, 5.8-liter, supercharged V8…not too bad at all, considering America’s favorite pony car will be ripping the roadways with a healthy collection of global exotics and supercars, no doubt.  As for the timing of when we get to see it all–it’s presently pinned for March of next year, right along with the Mustang 50th Anniversary.  How convenient, right?

Cool?  Corny?  Meh?  Regardless of how you react, it’s going to be a cool sight to see, if at the least to say it’s the X-thousandth time you have spied a Ford Mustang in a production silver screen product…  Follow the jump for the video.

StangNet picks up a Four Eyed Survivor

The way we have continued to land upon projects over the past 15 years here at StangNet HQ still continues to surprise us as Ford Mustang fans.  Just a couple of weeks ago, a tragedy in the family resulted in not just sad times, but also a reflection upon what was left behind.  We were able to get our paws on a near-mint 1986 Mustang GT…the last year of the 4-eyes, as you well know.  This quasi “barn find” was a complete surprise and we have got to say, we could not be more excited about this one.

The paint is original.  The interior is original.  Engine?  Yeah, you guessed it; original.  What’s more, the interior isn’t just original, it’s practically showroom new.  Astounding, we thought.  How many miles, you ask?  38,000.  And no, it’s not the second time around the 5-digit odometer, either.  This ’86 GT has been parked since 1994, so some minor maintenance and TLC are to be applied at the shop to get it up to complete pristine condition.

So what wild, outlandish plans do we have for this project car?  We don’t.  The car will get some paint touches, detailed, new shocks and struts, and the mandatory R134 conversion.  I’m sure we’ll be out and about in this Survivor soon enough, but in the meantime, check out some of the pictures we snapped in the gallery below.

2015 Ford Mustang rendered and detailed AGAIN

Time and again, we have all been privy to rumors and speculation surrounding the 2015 Ford Mustang. Car & Driver is now the latest party to lay out solid intel surrounding the forthcoming Ford installment of the 2015 Mustang. Everyone knows the 5.0-liter is back and it is awesome, but what does the 2015 Mustang hold for us in power, design, refinement, and pizzazz? Sources say we shall find out soon enough on Thursday, April 17, 2014 — exactly 50 years from the day the Mustang made it to the marketplace. Nothing like ringing in half a century of legendary dominance by making an entrance to the birthday party in entirely new skin, right?
