Ford Mustang and more to mark BBK 25th Anniversary

At one point or another, most every Ford Mustang owner has sought to slap on some aftermarket exhaust to get “just that right note” from the loud pedal.  While doing so, he or she likely considers a plethora of aftermarket  options from the old Jegs or Summit catalog…or some other preferred retailer.  To help mark off over 25 years of successfully supplying the Mustang fans (and of course, many others) with quality aftermarket exhaust products, BBK Performance is going to have an anniversary celebration which will include a car show, open house, prizes, food, and drinks for all those in attendance.

So, just when is this going down?  Later this month, everyone.  September 28th, from 10am-4pm, to be most precise.  Make sure to check out the Facebook Event in order to get socially plugged in, and keep tabs on all the developments for the celebration.

See just how much the Shelby GT500 can do

We’ve all seen the crazy horsepower figures the Ford Mustang a la Shelby GT500 has put onto paper and also the pavement in the past couple of model years.  What we haven’t seen too much of is just what that sort of horsepower looks like when it’s unleashed by a driver with a serious lead foot.  In the feature we have in store for you, one of the Motor Trend editors takes a 2013 Shelby GT500 Super Snake out through the paces to see just how well a (measured for parasitic loss) 747hp / 611 lb-ft empowered Ford Mustang handles the paces of cruising, some pressured driving, and of course what the 1/4 mile has in store…after a few nodding passes.

Keep going to see video and check out the hard-to-refute results, and judge for yourself how manageable such power really is in a Ford Mustang…

Ford Mustang test of vibrating LED shift knob

Gone are the days when kids are forced into learning to drive a manual as part of driver’s education, and even more prominent is the slush box automatic transmission.  But while the lack of rowing gears through the years might not have affected the Ford Mustang as much as other automobiles on the road, it’s easy enough to see that automatic and CVT transmissions are by far the majority the populous desires.

So, what’s a good compromise for the Mustang driver who wants the advantages and capabilities of a manual gearbox, but fears the sometimes intimidating initial learning curve which comes along with learning just what to do, and when, the time comes about to shift?  Well, how about a shift knob which both illuminates and vibrates when the “typical” shift point is reached, in order to help a less-skilled driver achieve the experience of driving a manual at a more rapid pace.

With LED technology, parts from an Xbox, and a little bit of Open Source crowd-sourcing, the following video gives you the answers to the questions held this whole time.  Enjoy!

Hertz and Penske Racing Ford Mustang GT

Think you are ready for another rent-a-racer Ford Mustang?  Good thing, because the Ford and Hertz & Penske Racing alliance has resulted in one hot thing already this summer–a sporty Mustang GT to take up honors as the latest addition to the Hertz Adrenaline Collection.

The Hertz Penske Mustang GT can be found for rental at select US airport rental locations, and includes a healthy amount upgrades from the base late model Mustang trim.  Let’s start with a quad-tip exhaust system, a tuned ECU, 3.55 gears out back, and Brembo braking at all 4 corners.  Not bad…at all.  And of course, the Coyote 5.0-liter engine is underhood, cranking out an underrated (due to performance enhancements) 420hp.

Is this the final 2015 Ford Mustang exhaust note?

Renderings, concepts, spy shots, and now even a small video of the 2015 Ford Mustang has seeped out from the 50th Anniversary cracks.  This latest clip sounds off the low-end tones of what’s most likely the 5.0 Coyote we have come to know and love in today’s Mustang, and while we don’t get any high RPM revs or event a blip of spirit, we can say we’re plenty pleased with the throaty tone from what is highly speculated to be the 2015 Mustang to be.  Follow the jump for the video.

Ford Mustang to star in Need for Speed movie

We’ve all been there at some point…crouched over the QWERTY, with a gaming mouse or at the console with a controller or steering wheel in-hand; swerving, smoking tires, and avoiding pursuit in the virtual racing world.  The ‘Need for Speed’ series of games has captured audiences worldwide for nearly 20 years and isn’t about to leave any thrill untouched.  Know what’s even cooler?  A group of producers has teamed up and roped in the Ford Mustang for an actual movie based upon the video game series.  There’s no solid word on the title just yet, but you can safely bank it will somehow tie in the long-standing Need for Speed moniker in order to take advantage of the franchise’s successes.

The Ford Mustang in the movie is reported to be a 900hp variant, powered by the all-aluminum, 5.8-liter, supercharged V8…not too bad at all, considering America’s favorite pony car will be ripping the roadways with a healthy collection of global exotics and supercars, no doubt.  As for the timing of when we get to see it all–it’s presently pinned for March of next year, right along with the Mustang 50th Anniversary.  How convenient, right?

Cool?  Corny?  Meh?  Regardless of how you react, it’s going to be a cool sight to see, if at the least to say it’s the X-thousandth time you have spied a Ford Mustang in a production silver screen product…  Follow the jump for the video.
